A child who is emotionally dependent on their parents is the child counterpart to a helicopter parent. They think only in terms of what might upset their parents and are constantly trying to do what they think will please them. They are constantly wanting to be around their parents. It has nothing to do with how well they may love their parents, this is something completely different from familial love, it is a psychological need similar to a drug addict's need for their drug.

If an emotionally dependent child were to somehow loose the parent they are emotionally attached to, they would be devastated and it would take them a while to stop hurting inside, but at the same time they would also very quickly become attached to the first person who seems like a proper replacement to their parental figure in order to fill their need. If the emotionally dependent child is being in some way abused by their parent or replacement parent, they will still keep coming back and feeling the same way in the way a drug addict would come back to their low-class friends who trade drugs for sex or something of the sort and they wouldn't be involved with or even consider having sex with if it weren't for the drugs.
