“It was a little scuffle, not a life or death experience,” you say, following your older sister into the kitchen where an amazing aroma is overwhelming your senses. It is so full of warm smells, the smells of oils and fats, a rich hearty smell. You are shocked when you round the corner and see it is nothing more than grill cheese sandwiches. It somehow seemed…. Just… more than it was before. You silently laugh at yourself, chiding yourself over this. You enhanced your sense of smell earlier today, of course it is going to smell a little different.


You shake this off, looking about the kitchen, noticing your little brother Bastian sitting at the counter with a stunned look that says he is amazed by what he just heard you and Brittany talking about.


“Are you sure you’re Ok?” Brittany asks you, snapping you out of your reveling in the information brought to you by your enhanced skills and senses. Darn, guess she caught you looking a little spaced out.


“Yeah, I’m fine,” you say, “actually, I think I still got a bit of adrenaline going, but other than that it was just me dealing with some jerk while I was out, no big! I don’t want it to ruin this, I don’t get to see my big sister so much anymore since she went away to college! How’ve you been?”


“If you say so,” she says with a sigh, directing you with her eyes to sit next to Bastian. About 3 silent seconds after this, you realize that she seems to have completely spaced on your question into how she is doing and has no intention to answer.


“Hey!” You suddenly hear from your little brother, “is that for real!? Did you really beat up a police man!?”


“Yeah! He sure did!” Roni skips in, “and it was the POLICE MAN who got arrested!”


“That’s COOL!!!” Bastian proclaims. “what did you do? Did he point his gun at you?”


“No,” you say, “he never took his gun out.”


“How many times did you punch him?”


“I didn’t punch him,” you say, “I pinned him to the ground, like wrestling.”


“Oh!” Bastian responds.


“It was awesome!” Roni seems eager to talk about this all herself. “well, I didn’t get to see a whole lot of it myself, I just hit a fly and I got a home run because everyone in the field was watching Xander fighting with this guy, and then I got a run and looked up and Xander had the guy like this,” and then she cranes her body to the side, sticking her arm up into the air in an imitation of the pin you had the guy in, “and then all the adults were gathered around and then some lady told us Xander was fighting with the police man!”


“Wow!” Bastian says appreciatively.


Brittany lets out a sigh, clearly bothered by all this talk about fighting and the enthusiasm that the younger kids seem to be showing for this. “Hey Roni,” Brittany says, turning to your sister. “How about you go get changed for dinner? You’re still all dusty from the field.”


“Awww… do I have to!?” She complains.


“Yes, you’re all dirty,” she says. “It’s Ok, how about you go up and tell Charity about what Xander did after you’re clean, I’m sure she’ll like to hear about it.”


“Ok!” Roni cheers, “I gotta go tell Charity! Yeah!” With that, she takes off running full speed for the stairs.


“But change your cloths and get clean first!” Brittany calls after her.


“Yeah...” You hear Roni’s groan all the way from the top of the stairs before hearing the appropriate door for Roni’s room slam shut.


Well, looks like Brittany sure knows how to handle Roni. Kind of figures with how long your big sister has been playing mother hen to all of you.


“Hey!” Bastian cuts in, “so, how did you beat the police man?” He asks, “Why didn’t he take out his gun if he had a gun?”


“Well,” you say, “police officers are not allowed to take out their guns all the time,” you tell him.


“Why?”


“Because they don’t want police officers just killing people. A police officer will get in big trouble if he even takes out his gun if it is not to shoot a bad guy who also is holding a gun.”


“Oh.” He says, seemingly satisfied, “but he still got arrested for fighting with you anyway, right?”


“Yeah, the police are not supposed to do that either,” you tell him, “but he didn’t get arrested, he just got in a lot of trouble with his boss.”


“Oh!” He says. “Is he going to get fired?”


“I sure hope so!” Brittany cuts in.


“Yeah, he’s probably going to get fired.” You say.


“That’s so cool!” Bastian cheers you on.


Well then, looks like the kids are happy with the explanation they got.
