Biography
Ashley is a former child of the orphanage. When she was young, she would consistently get very good marks in school and had even skipped ahead 2 grades and was seen as something of a child prodigy. At around the time she was 10, the richest man in town, Mr. Hubert, was planning on adopting her as his daughter.
However, when she was 11, her friend in the orphanage got adopted by Victor Owen. When she went over to visit her friend, she wound up getting raped by Victor and got pregnant as a result.
When this was discovered, Mr. Hubert decided to change his decision, instead waiting until after the baby was born and then waited a year before he decided to marry her instead of adopting her, figuring her genes for high intelligence could at least benefit the family. Even though she was only 13, the town saw little issue with this marriage because she was an orphan and she was also not a virgin.
Because she was married, she was also pulled out of school, spoiling her future and promising career opportunities. Although this could be seen as short-sighted, this was in alignment with the town's customs when it comes to under-age marriages.
She has since had 2 daughters with her husband, and because her husband is more educated than most of the town, she is also now aware of the fact that it was being raped by victor that got her pregnant and how sex is viewed in general.
She has since taken up several efforts to benefit the orphanage in recent years since she turned 18 and started having more of a voice in the town. She has begun pushing for an orphanage sleep-over program, hoping to help her "little sisters" from the orphanage to experience some caring families like what she has with her husband, and also to help increase the towns folk's exposure to the orphan girls so it can increase their chances of being adopted.
She has pushed for the program in which 3-4 girls at a time would sleep over at a house that has 2 parents in it, the thought being that both having 2 adults and also having more than one orphan there should minimize opportunities for any of them to be taken advantage of like she was by Victor when she was young.
She was horrified when her husband told her about the program, and she strongly objects to the part about pre-marital sex as a part of the punishment. She is not so concerned about the sexual molestation, which she sees as just another form of punishment. It is specifically the idea of pre-marital sex, which is against the bible, and she is willing to take the place of any of her daughters, or her sisters in the orphanage, or even the daughters of previous orphanage girls such as Bridgette. Because she is already married, she reasons it would be less sinful if she was having sex instead of the girls.
