What's the deal with those symbols I heard about?

Oh, you mean these? ★
They're pretty self-explanatory. They're secret symbols that some of us young girls wear to signal we're interested in sex. You know, got to do it quietly and subtly because it's not socially acceptable for children to have sex. Especially not with adults.

Yeah, I got that part, but is there more to it? Like, where did this idea come from, how did it start, who knows about it…

There's a lot to it, actually. Should we start straight from the beginning?

Sure! It actually began here, in this very village, hundreds of years ago!
Legend says that Kostikki - a malevolent god who lives on top of that small mountain to the east - got angry at the local residents for how overly chastise and modest their lives had gotten. My granny says that it's probably due to people turning their backs on nature and tradition to worship their new God, but who really knows.

What is she even going on about…

Thus, Kostikki came down as a spirit to torment and guide them towards debauchery, playing sexual pranks on the villagers and even possessing them to do lewd acts against their will! A lot was done to try and calm the angry spirit but nothing worked, short of doing what Kostikki wanted the villagers to do.
The people turned towards the wise shaman of the village to commune with Lauhatar - the spirit of the lake this village sits on the shore of - for guidance on how to banish the evil spirit from these lands. Lauhatar told the villagers that Kostikki could not be vanquished for he's been living in these lands since the dawn of time. He's connected to these lands. However, his anger could be contained and he could be calmed and convinced to leave the villagers be.
To carry out this mission, Lauhatar chose three local virgin daughters from the village and instructed them to bear the "Star of Lauhatar", which would mark them as an offering for Kostikki.
And so, for the following month of the waning summer, Kostikki possessed the local men one by one, and in their bodies and forms his spirit ravaged the "Star-Bearers" for thirty straight days and nights, all so his sexual appetite could be sated, all so his anger and frustration could be quelled. Then, when he was pleased with his work, he retreated back to his mountain to sleep and slumber in peace and quiet.
Ever since then, every now and then, some young virgin daughters of this land are chosen to bear the Star of Lauhatar to keep not only the evil spirit at bay, but also to keep the desires of men at bay. Now, we continue the tradition so he could sleep calmly forevermore and not come back to haunt these lands.

That's the legend anyway. Nobody is actually "chosen" these days, as we "choose" to do these things on our own.

…Riiight…

It's a nice little story, but it's probably all just make believe and superstition.

Don't say that! My granny says she was chosen back when she was young, back when there was nobody else to take the mantle! And should there not be those like us doing this willingly, Lauhatar would choose a Star-Bearer of her own!

Yeah, yeah. Sure, sure.
As for your other question; how far the knowledge about these symbols go? Well… It's hard for us to know for sure, but things like internet and such sure have spread information about it, for you've even got some city girls who wear these symbols far beyond our tiny little village where this all started. As you can imagine, it's got nothing to do with satisfying any angry, horny gods. That's just a local legend.

Well, it's all linked to the star's color, actually. Different colors signal your sexual orientation. For example, the one I was wearing yesterday was pink.
★Pink star means you're looking for a male partner.
★Blue star on the other hand means you want a female partner. The reason why the colors are "flipped" like this by the way is because back in the days these stars were only meant to be worn for heterosexual purposes, so girls wore pink and boys wore blue. Homosexuality was much more of a taboo back then. Even pedophilia was more widely accepted as "normal".
★ Violet star means you're bisexual and fine with a partner of either gender.
★And lastly, there's the black star. It's special, it's different, as it's not tied to sexual orientation. It means you've been a bad girl and needs to be punished.

…And the same in Swedish? Like, what do you mean by "punishment"?

Well, since this is technically a "game", there are certain rules, and the black star for us means we've broken them. We'll explain them to you as well, but short explanation is that if we, the Star-Bearers, repeatedly break the rules given to us, then Kostikki will take that as a provocation and punish us for our disobedience and for not respecting what the Star of Lauhatar represents.

And this, uh… Lauhatar is okay with the mountain god punishing us?

Well, according to this legend, there's not much she can do about Kostikki's wrath, as he's seen as a much more powerful spirit.

They even say that Kostikki created the black star as his way of punishing the disobeying Star-Bearers! Meanwhile, because of this, Lauhatar advises against wearing it.

Okay… So what are the rules then?

It kind of depends on your role. You know, whether you're the one wearing the star or taking advantage of one wearing it. At this point it's worth pointing out that there's no age limit, and technically you're also allowed to approach those wearing the star if its color matches with you.

So if a boy wears a blue star, I can approach him. Got it, but do I also need to wear one?

No, only the "target" needs to have one.

Rule number one is that you can only wear the star if it's considered somehow "unacceptable" for you to be having sex. Since there is a strict age of consent in this country, this basically means that you can wear it if you're underage. This is why it's mostly worn by children. Sometimes young teenagers too, but never adults.
Rule number two, once approached you should NOT refuse. Like, why wear it if you're just gonna refuse? Doesn't make sense, doesn't it? You can only say "no" if you feel like the risk of being discovered is too great. You know, we've got to protect our secrets, and we've got to protect our dates too. We don't want anyone to end up in jail for just a little bit of fun, now don't we?
Rule number three, never request money or any other payment. This is all for fun, all for free, no strings attached.
Rule number four, we must NEVER use the stars as means of trying to lure people into trouble. NEVER EVER.
Lastly, Rule number five, NEVER draw these markings on other people without their consent. Only draw on yourself!

The last two ones are extremely strict. They're heinous crimes for us to commit! Breaking them will invoke the wrath of Lauhatar!

Makes sense. How about the rules for those who approach us?

Well, there are four.

One, don't draw on others to "trick" or even "force" them into having sex.
Two, do not approach those who don't wear these stars in the "area of influence". That basically means anywhere where these marks are known to be widely worn, especially here in our village. Gods are said to give leeway to those who don't know what the areas of influence are.
Three, always make your intentions known as you approach a star-bearer. They can't just grab us out of nowhere and drag us into a van, you know? We will give them a permission if they just ask, so they REALLY should just ask!
And four, do not force your target into doing something they're not comfortable with. Like, if you say anal is off limits, they can't do that. This kind of comes back to what the "wearers" can do as well. If we were to say that everything is off limits, that would just be considered a refusal of service and us breaking the rule number two.

And what exactly happens if we break the rules?

Well let's just say, you may wake up some day with an unremovable black star tattooed on your skin, which magically changes place if you try to hide it. And since you've been a bad girl who needs to be punished, no penalty will come to those who decide to take advantage of you, no matter what they decide to do. Sometimes Kostikki himself who manifests himself in human form, and when he does, nothing can ever be traced back to him since he just disappears from the face of earth after being satisfied.

…So, they could literally even kidnap us?

That's basically it, but they would still have to let you go once the star disappeared for good. And if you then try to get them into trouble, you'll just be marked again and again and again until you learn your lesson. I know, it's scary stuff.
Speaking of scary, there was also a famous case of child rape happening in this village some twenty years ago, where some lowlifes raped an unmarked little girl. Let's just say, these "lowlifes" met a quick and untimely demise after being cursed by Lauhatar…

Yeah, me neither… N-not that I actually believe in any of this superstitious nonsense… I just follow the rules because it makes playing this game all the more fun.

Well, there are also symbols other than stars, which can be worn to signal different interest, but they're not that widely used as their knowledge may be lost to most of our targets. Do you want to know about them regardless?

Sure, might as well.

★As I already explained, a star means interest in casual sex. All rules apply with no special rules.
♡Then, there's the romantic heart. Want yourself a boyfriend, or even a girlfriend? This mark means you're looking for a long-term romantic partner. Here, refusal is typically more acceptable, as you're not actually looking to have casual sex with just anyone, but rather an actual lover!
♢Diamond means you're a pervert looking to try a bit more kinkier things. It's basically the same as the star, but it just simply means that you're okay with a lot more than your average girl. An additional signal to our targets, if you may.
♤Spades specifically means you're a slave looking for a master.

S-seriously?

Hahahahaha! Calm down, it's just games and make believe! You're not literally about to become anyone's slave if you wear this, unless of course you wear a black spade! So maybe not do that, okay?
♧Lastly, the club is similar. It means you're a pet looking for an owner. if you want to release your inner animal, this is what you want to wear.

Oh, right. There isn't actually a mark for that as far as I know. You may want to wear a diamond and actually talk about and discuss your interest with the one approaching you. Like, just say you're a "dom" or a "top" or something like that.
Or, alternatively, just find someone who wears spades or a club that matches with you. You might get lucky.

How about time? How does that factor into this?

For that, there are no real rules beyond "as long as you're okay with it", or "as long as you're wearing the star". Like I said before, according to rules we shouldn't refuse, but that doesn't mean we should just allow them to have their way indefinitely. Just put a stop to it after you feel done.

Right. Last question: how do you "wear" them then? Are they like drawings, or tattoos? Where should they be drawn?

You can draw them with a simple marker, preferably with one that's easy to wash off with soap. Permanent markers are, well… Problematic… As you can imagine…
Regarding placement? It doesn't matter, but I suggest some place that's easy to see, but also easy to hide if need be. You may want to hide it from the eyes of certain people. It isn't actually against the rules to hide the mark so it can't be seen.
