Once you get in the house, it's pretty obvious that there is something going on; Mrs Johnson is clattering pans in the kitchen and, instead of being in the dining room doing her homework as usual, Janet's in the sitting room, sitting up straight in an armchair and glaring at Mother.

You take your shoes off and hang your coat in the hall and go upstairs. "I'm going to have a bath," you call down. You lay in the warm water think about what the nurse did. There have always been rumours about her but when Billy Hoskins bragged that she'd sucked him off, no one believed him. You think about what she said about you and Janet. You know that incest is illegal, but so are a lot of things: kids aren't supposed to smoke, but a lot of them do (you tried it once and it made you sick); scrumping apples, sneaking in the back door of the cinema and nicking sweets from the village shop are all illegal too, but nobody really seems to care.

School nurses are not supposed to suck boys off either and thinking about that makes your cock swell again, but you ignore it and climb out of the bath. As you head back downstairs you think about she said. "What really matters is not doing anything that the other person doesn't agree to".

Back downstairs, things seem to have calmed down and you take your bag into the dining room to make a start on your homework before dinner. Janet follows you in and sits down across the table from you. "It's not fair," she says.

"What's not fair,"

"Some of my friends from school are going swimming on Saturday, but Mum says I can't go."

"Why not?"

She shrugs. "She says we are too young to be going into town on our own."

"Who were you going with?"

"Susan and Jenny." She looks as if she's about to burst into tears.

"Maybe she'd let you go if I went with you," you say. She wipes the tears from her eyes and smiles hopefully at you as you go into the sitting room. A few minutes later when you come back and tell her that Mother has agreed, she jumps up, throws her arms around your neck and kisses you hard on the lips. Neither of you notices that your Mother followed you and saw the kiss.

After dinner, the TV is pretty boring so you go upstairs, lay on your bed and pull out the book that the nurse gave you. The outside covers are completely blank, and the paper inside is fairly rough and cheap, but the contents are pretty surprising. You're still reading when Mother comes in, but she ignores the book and sits down on the chair beside the bed. It takes a while before she starts to speak. "You're growing up Andrew and I think maybe I should have had this talk before."

"If this is about the birds and bees, we had that talk at school ages ago."

She shakes her head. "Well, yes and no. It's about your sister. It's really great that you and Janet get on so well together and I know you'd never do anything to hurt her, but you must remember that she's your sister and there are things brothers and sisters shouldn't do together." You're not sure what she means until she says "I saw her kiss you earlier and I'm worried that she might be having trouble sorting out her feelings, that's all."

She stands up and gives you a kiss. "Janet's a pretty girl and you're a nice boy. Just remember that she's your sister. There will be plenty of other girls but your sister's off-limits. Do you understand?"

You mumble something about how you understand how you'd never do anything to hurt your baby sister and she seems satisfied with that.
