"Do you fancy coming back to my house for lunch," Alice says.

"Can I come," Mandy pipes up.

"'Course you can,"Alice laughs, giving her a hug. "Do you think we'd leave you here?"

It's a good half-hour walk and for some reason, Mandy elects to hold your hand. "Can we play some games later," she asks.

You give her hand a little squeeze. "Yeah, that might be fun," you say, thinking that maybe you have different games in mind that she does.

Alice's Mum has made sandwiches for them and she shares hers with you. Then she finds some fruit cake in a tin and cuts you all a slice each. "What we gonna do now," Mandy asks when it's all just crumbs.

Alice looks at you and grins. "You know how the games with Uncle Jim are secret," she says.

"He says there would be big trouble if anyone, specially Mummy, found out," Mandy says.

"Well, we have a game called making babies and that's a big secret too. If you want to join in, you gotta pinky swear not to tell." Alice holds out her pinky finger, and you follow suit. Mandy looks at it and then hooks her own little finger round Alice's then yours.

"Let's go up to my bedroom," Alice says.
