"Come on, June! Hurry up!"

June rushed to join her brothers, brushing past the leaves. It was the middle of summer, and that was no time to be spending indoors, not when the forest grew so close to their house. She was wearing a white camisole with blue shorts, but no shoes. There weren't any thorns in the woods, and the mud would wash off her feet better than it would her sneakers.

They came back here often, the three of them. It was their personal playground. They could soak their feet in the water, run under the shade, climb trees, and there was always something interesting to find out here. But today was going to be more interesting than any of them would have expected.

What happens?

• They go swimming in a nearby lake
