You get out of the taxi at the end of the street and walk the last few hundred yards to a small house and rap on the door. Tamsin opens it on a chain, but when she sees you, she closes it again and then lets you in. She is wearing a short white skirt that contrasts beautifully with her black skin.

There is a child behind her, peering round to see who it is. "This is Jenny," she says, bringing a cute little girl, about four years old, with dark brown hair, brown eyes and a snub nose forward. She is wearing pyjamas and is barefoot.

"Hello Jenny," you say with a smile.

"Hello mister," she says.

"I like your PJs. Is that a unicorn?"

She stretches her top over her chest. "Yes, an oonicorn."

Tamsin leads you into the sitting room. "Their parents will be back around ten," she says. She turns to Jenny. "Time you were in bed."

You follow them up the stairs and into the girl's bedroom. Tamsin holds her finger to her lips. "Shhh!" She points to a sleeping baby in a crib.
