By the time you approach Gringott’s Goblin Bank, the temporary lull in the storm has come to an end, and the sky is hurling sheets of rain on the city below. Even your water repelling charm does little to stop you from being soaked as the wind lashes you relentlessly.
Ahead of you, the bank stands like a rock against the waves.
You rush inside, shaking your wand and wishing you’d pulled up the hood on your shadow cloak instead of relying on a temporary magical umbrella. Inside, there are some hushed voices of customers and the goblins serving them, but for the most part, the goblins are working in silence at their desks.
You don’t need to visit the bank for money. You have enough in your purse to buy almost anything you desire in Diagon Alley, and anything more expensive can be paid for with a letter of credit from the bank. No, you want to come here to check your vault for something far more important.
In your timeline, a fragment of your soul was kept hidden in the Lestrange family vault. A Horcrux, made from Helga Hufflepuff’s Cup. You have to know if it is a Horcrux in this timeline, and if so, is it here?
You approach one of the goblins working at his desk. He seems to do his best to studiously ignore you.
“Ahem,” you say, clearing your throat to gain his attention.
The goblin ignores you.
“Excuse me?” You say loudly, and in the sternest tone of voice you can muster.
The goblin looks up from his work, and down at you.
“Can I help you Miss… er?” The goblin says, asking your name suspiciously.
“Lestrange,” you answer him, “Emily Lestrange. I wish to visit my family vault.”
You place your family vault key on the desk in front of him. He looks at it for a moment, and then replies.
“I see. I will need to check with the Chief Treasurer about this. Wait here please.”
The goblin picks up your key and walks to the bank of the main room. You can see him conferring with two other goblins, one of whom is very old. You cannot make out their words, but the conversation seems quite animated. After a few moments, the goblin nods, and makes his way back toward you, in no rush at all.
“I’m sorry Miss Lestrange,” the goblin begins, “but we are under strict instructions not to let you enter the vault without your Aunt, Bellatrix Lestrange, in attendance…”
“I fail to see what my aunt has to do with it,” you snap, “I am the daughter of Rabastan and Sofia Lestrange and I demand access to my family vault. I have the key, it will not do to prevent me from…”
“No one doubts who you are Miss Lestrange, but you are still a child,” the goblin rudely interrupts you, “You may not enter the vault without your aunt and legal Guardian, Bellatrix Lestrange, until you are legally of age. That is final. You may, of course, withdraw funds or make a deposit.”
For a moment you feel nothing but seething, white hot rage. How dare he defy you! You are the Dark Lord! You want nothing more than to draw your wand and end him instantly. For a split second, you nearly do, but then your senses restrains you.
“Very well,” you practically hiss, through pursed lips and gritted teeth, “we shall see about that.”
You turn and storm out of the bank, nearly colliding with a lower class Wizarding family who scurry to get out of your way. You are furious.
Where do you go next?
- Grincott’s Goblin Bank to see your wealth in your family vault
- Ollivander the Wand Maker to see if you can use your mother’s wand or if a wand of your own would be better
- Stowe and Packer’s on Carkitt Market to buy a magical bag or trunk
- Cogg and Bell’s Clockmakers in Carkitt Market to inquire about your broken Time Turner
- Twilfit & Tattings Clothing to ask about enchanted clothing and footwear
Or are you ready to go home now?
