You find yourself a little taken aback at the sudden appearance of this very confident, very beautiful . . . player? You're a bit lost for words. You shake yourself out of it quickly enough, and comport yourself.
"I'm Xander," you reply. "I'm . . . unique, I suppose you'd say. I am a lifie, but at the same time I am mostly like a player. I'm somewhere in-between."
"That's ridiculous," replies the woman. "Players are people, lifies are code. You can't be in-between."
"I can, and am," you say defiantly. "You'd be surprised to know that while my universe is a simulation played out in your universe, your own universe is a simulation played out in a third, and it, in turn is a simulation played out in yet another universe. We are not that different. That which separates lifie and player is simply a matter of who is simulating whom."
"That," she states matter-of-factly, "is utter poppycock. You're obviously a cleverly programed hack. Someone is playing a rather large prank, giving a lifie god status. It might have been something I would have done . . . well not really. Not my style. Since you're no help, let's look at your code."
Your taken aback at the woman's revelation that you are, in fact, a god; and therefor not the least bit prepared as she swirls her finger in an upward twisting motion and you find yourself lifted off the ground and paralyzed. Suddenly a light blue UI appears in front of the woman filled with alien code.
"Wow," she says, "someone had encrypted the hell out of your code. Don't worry though, I am one of the world's greatest hackers. Shouldn't take me a tick." The code on the screen begins to change at the speed of thought. Coding with a neural interface must be amazing. You try to struggle against whatever force she put on you that holds you, but you can't make any motion what-so-ever. You wonder if you can even speak . . . not that you really have anything to say at the moment. It seems a very brief period of time later that she exclaims, "I'm in! What have we here . . . nice coding. It seems to spoof you as a player to the game code. Very elegant. It has a familiar feel. I'm pretty sure I know this coder. There has to be something more though. You're too aware. He must have tweaked your AI or something."
"I don't think so," you say, simultaneously realizing that you can speak. "I'm pretty sure he kept it simple."
"This makes no sense. I'm not seeing any command pathways to explain your ability to use Life Controller. It's just that bit of code to spoof you as a player, and activating the god flag. All the other changes that I'm seeing are due to the Life Controller. You shouldn't be able to do what you can do."
"Wellll . . ."
"Oh, shut up," she says, "I'll figure this out."
"While you're at it," you say, "is this really necessary. It's not like I can run away from the devil or anything."
She looks up sharply. "So you know who I am?"
"I figured it out."
"Surprising . . . it's Black Rose though," she says. While you hear Black Rose, in your mind it is spelled B£@©k ®∅z3. Very odd. She appears to consider the situation, "fine, but if you take off there will be hell to pay." She swirls her finger again and you drop to the floor, easily keeping your feet.
"Good one," you say.
"This is Loki's code isn't it?"
You consider lying briefly, then think better of it. "Yes, he's the one that edited my code and gave me the mod - I mean hacks."
"It figures, only he and I push the rules that far. I'm not going to learn any more from your code though." The UI in front of her simply blinks into nonexistence without an movement from her. She turns to you. "So, where'd you get the doll?"
"I actually found it right where it is."
"I lost track of this one a while back. It was a bit of a surprise when I found out a god had activated it, and even more surprised when it was a god I didn't recognize. This babies are my greatest work."
"From what I heard they were a failure. The player's loved them."
"Yes," she said with a smile, "didn't they though? And now they are a popular commodity kept by the elite players of Life as trophies."
"Insidious," you say.
"Aren't I though?"
"But why tell me? That could ruin the whole thing."
"You'd be eliminated the instant you told someone in charge. If they didn't do it, I would. I assume you have a normal sense of self-preservation?"
"I should hope so."
"Well, now what should I do with you?"
"Are you asking for suggestions?"
"Just talking out loud. I see you only have Infinity Pocket, and the Lifie Mod and World Mod modules of the Life Controller suite . . . and he's claimed the local area himself. This . . . This is where we're very different. I'd have loaded you up and watched the chaos. Good ol' Loki playing it safe. It figures."
"Well if you're giving out hacks, what's that one that lets you use a neural interface to interact with your UI?"
"I'm not giving out anything . . . especially to some aberrant code. It's Black Hack. It's my own personal hack. No one else has it."
She's obviously considering your fate, perhaps you can influence her decision.
What do you do?
- Hit on her
- Try to make friends with her
- Try to make yourself useful to her
- Ask her about Cora
- Ask her about God
Infinity Pocket
Loki controls the local area.
