It’s an old brick rectangular building with three doors: the centre of each of the two long sides of the entrances to the ladies and gents, while at one end there’s a door marked private. It’s locked, but when you knock, you hear the bolt being drawn.

The man who lets you in is old, like the building, he has always been old to you. The room is small, maybe three yards by three and there is an opening opposite the entrance leading to a passageway runs down the length of the building. The janitor, for that’s who he is, sits down on an old armchair and you can see his grubby -looking underwear through his open fly. You help yourself to a coffee from the pot stands on a table beside a sink and sit in the other armchair.

“How have you been,” you enquire.

Your host shrugs; “okay I guess.… You?” You tell him you’re okay too and ask him if he’s had any luck. He shrugs again; “not much, I guess you saw the little girl who just left?” You nod and wait for him to tell you. “Boring; she just had a piss and I couldn’t see anything because her dad stood in the way.”
