A couple weeks came and went. Michael would occasionally get to see Elizabeth along with her parents, and the trust between them grew. She started getting attached to him, and he felt likewise. A few days after school was out for summer, he received an unexpected call from them one Wednesday afternoon.

"Michael? I'm sorry to ask you of this, but can you please watch over Elizabeth for us tonight at our house while we go out? Our regular babysitter had to cancel at the last minute, and our backup is away on vacation. We'll pay you for your troubles."

The same strange feeling in his stomach from before came over him again. He swallowed and then responded. "Oh, it's no problem at all. Sure, I'd be happy to watch over her."
