On my story, 10 days to live, it only shows one page in the {{PAGESINCAT:TDTL}} I checked and there are two pages, this could have something to do with the reason you had to separate it in the first place... This is what it says here "4", so I think I am probably right about the reason... --PrincessKittens (talk) 03:22, 14 January 2022 (CET)
PAGESINCAT doesn't update instantly. Sometimes it takes a while. You can force it to update by editing it, but that would defeat the purpose of using it instead of updating the number of pages manually. At some point I really need to go through and find all of the traditional stories and change them from using PAGESINCAT to a static number as they definitely don't need a dynamic pagecount. --Elerneron (talk) 04:47, 14 January 2022 (CET)
Ok --PrincessKittens (talk) 04:57, 14 January 2022 (CET)
I have just noticed how Alessa is putting pretty pictures in the list. I don't object to the picture per se just the amount of space they take up. I would prefer to stick to the traditional brief summary. --Hope (talk) 17:15, 5 March 2024 (UTC)
I didn't want to say anything but I agree.
If images are a must for Alessa, maybe they can create their own category?
Since all of their stories fall into the "yuri" category, relocating everything to a page titled "Alessa's story archive" could be beneficial.
The main page wouldn't be cluttered and Alessa could even provide a synopsis alongside the images and story codes. --MrPib (talk) 19:13, 5 March 2024 (UTC)
Yes, I have noticed this but haven't brought it up with Elerneron yet. I did just do a little test and changed all the images so they're left aligned and the text is wrapped. It does look much cleaner this way. I'll run with that and adjust the other images later. That makes the page much less cluttered but still keeps the image for now. I probably will bring this up with Elerneron once I finish that. --Hgcollins (talk) 10:24, 7 March 2024 (UTC)
It wasn't my intention to add images, but I noticed that Emily had an image for her story 'The Last Horcrux', so I thought it was acceptable. A yuri category sounds fine to me, or even separating straight stories from lesbian stories, although it would require other authors to relocate their lesbian stories to the new category, or someone would have to do it for them. --Alessa (talk) 12:02, 7 March 2024 (UTC)
I would also support a separate Yuri category, especially since there are a plenty of stories already that could be migrated there. "Straight and lesbian" stories could be renamed to "straight loli and shota" instead, for example. -- Innocent Ruin (talk) 15:31, 7 March 2024 (UTC)
That would make the categories much cleaner, though that is a considerable amount of reorganization. But my biggest concern is how it would fit on the homepage. --Hgcollins (talk) 02:19, 9 March 2024 (UTC)
Okay, after thinking about it for like a second, the letters on the homepage have been too squished for the longest time. So splitting everything into 2 rows would be way better. But organization-wise, this is a huge project. But Innocent Ruin’s does kind of make sense as everything right now just ends up getting thrown into meta just because it happens to have both genders when it makes more sense in a “straight stories” section. Whatever we do, let’s make sure that it makes it easier for us all to find things we want to read.
The biggest hurdle by far is that the categories are based off of the current organization. --Hgcollins (talk) 02:28, 9 March 2024 (UTC)
As much as I would like to see a separate 'Lesbian' section, I think separating stories by categories the way it is done now is the wrong approach. It's the story codes' job to tell readers which category each story belongs to. It would be more intuitive to have a single 'Title' category at the top of the page with letters from # to Z. That way, all stories would be combined alphabetically, and readers can pick one they want to read based on story codes alone. Alternatively, if different sections make more sense, then instead of categories like straight or gay, they could be separated by 'Traditional', 'Interactive' and 'Non English'. --Alessa (talk) 05:49, 9 March 2024 (UTC)
I tend to agree. That’s why I added a page of featured writers to begin with so that it made it easier to find stories. My intention is for anyone that has published more than a couple stories and created a user page to be added to the directory. Though it is a bit of a challenge to make sure I get everyone on there who deserves a spot.
If there are people willing to share the work and we can all agree on a better means of organization, I’m open to bringing it to Elerneron to get the green light. But I can’t stress enough that any proposed change to the category tags means going into every single page of a story that needs a tag change to update it. I do like the idea of splitting traditional and interactive. It highlights one of the core features of this site. But just having one story section would be nice and clean. —- Hgcollins (talk) 05:57, 9 March 2024 (UTC)
Yeah, a complete overhaul of how stories are organized here would require a lot of work, but the idea isn't wholly untenable to me. Unless I'm misunderstanding something, we would only need to edit the category pages, and none of the content pages with stories, images, or templates. (edit: In addition to creating the new story indexes, of course, but that wouldn't be a big ask in comparison.)
In the short term, I would still voice support for adding a new Yuri/Lesbian category because it works well with the current system, there are a lot of stories that already fit the bill on the site, and it could be implemented relatively quickly and easily. 😊 -- Innocent Ruin (talk) 16:58, 9 March 2024 (UTC)
