Relationship to Yuu |
Older Sister |
Miku is Yuu's oldest sister, and Natsumi's mother.
Personality
Miku is a hard working, driven woman who, in order to better care for her daughter, graduated high school early, earned her college degree, and has since excelled at her job, such that she regularly gets promoted.
Becoming pregnant with her daughter started a nearly decade long feud with her mother; an unfortunate fight that only lasted so long because both have a tendency to become defensive when confronted, and so were never really able to communicate clearly about how they felt.
When she was younger, she enjoyed spending time with Faye and playing tabletop games with Yuu. Unfortunately, thanks to her current demanding schedule, she has to juggle her work demands with her responsibilities as a parent, and the only personal hobby she is able to find any time for anymore is reading.
History
As the oldest child, Miku was bitter about her parents divorce. Less than a year after starting middle school, she became pregnant. The father refused to take any responsibility, and cut off all contact with her. When her daugher was born, she named her Natsumi, referencing her mother. While this didn't make things worse, it unfortunately did not help in smoothing things out with Natsu.
After Natsumi was born, Miku began to focus on graduating high school as early as possible, so that she would have more time to take care of Natsumi. When she managed to graduate at the age of 15, she ended up having her biggest fight with Natsu yet. In the aftermath, she took her scholarship money and applied to a college in a different state, living in the dorms there.
After she moved out of Natsu's house, she attempted to make contact with her father again. This did not lead to a reconciliation, however, as he was still bitter over the divorce. While he has slowly gotten better over the years, their relationship remains distant, only contacting each other every few months. That being said, Miku is the only child Richard has that maintains any kind of relationship with him.
Once she graduated college, Miku got a corporate job, and has been steadily earning promotions since.
Character Conception
In my earliest concepts for the family story, Yuu had just two sisters; Faye and Minako. As the concept developed and ended up calling for the existence of a niece, Miku was developed to keep me from having to change Faye's concept; the archetypical gentle, doting older sister type that I wanted Faye to be is also nearly always virginal, at least at the start of the story. Adding Miku as an oldest sister allowed me to keep that aspect of Faye, and also allowed me to make the niece character older than she could have been had she been Faye's daughter.
I'll finish by adding, it was adding Miku that caused me to add Rika; if I was going to give Yuu two older sisters, I wanted him to have two younger sisters as well.
