History

House Virkeeri endures,

through storm, war, raiders or plague House Virkeeri endures.

That it has experienced these so often that they have fallen from a greater house to a lesser shows that they are not a house with a reputation for knowing when to quit, tenacious, driven and being very loyal to their chosen liege.

this reputation however lead to their near destruction, in times of strike, wars, both civil and external house virkeeri would devote itself fully to war, seeking to increase its reputation, wealth and prove their loyalty to their liege, sometimes they did well, sometimes they were beaten, but even driven back they simply gathered, retrained and returned to battle again and again untill victory.

Thus on one of the few times they retreated they were chased down, fragmented armies put to the sword, generals and scions of the house killed without ransom, harried into the houses own territories where their lands were ravaged and people slaughtered simply to delay their return to strength, removing them from the field until the end of the war.

with holding destroyed they still put themselves back into war but the pattern was established, enemies to the throne knew to attack the lands and not the armies of the house, tearing down their infrastructure, taking away their wealth, thinning the numbers of the house until they simple were unable to control their own lands.

the Lady of the house knew how weak they had become and knew when peace returned the casual and polite feeding frenzy for power and influence would destroy her house and steal their lands under the pretense of assisting them to keep order due to their weakened state.

in order to avoid this fate the matriarch sold her lands and remaining assets to the throne in exchange for settlement right for the newly discovered and explored southern islands, a few supply ships and building materials.

it was assumed that the house had failed, for three generations no word was heard nor did any of the ships returned, the house sliding into history until a ship loaded with crystal, hard woods, iron and gold with a member of the house returning to the mainland to reestablish ties.

Yet for all its potential wealth the house is still heavily rebuilding, every coin that flows into the house flows straight back into the island, setting up new mines, plantations, building trade ships and training craftsman, the household is both very rich and yet without a two coins to rub together, low on troops and fairly weak but given time returning to the ranks of the greater houses is more than possible, it is really only a matter of time.
