"Just because we have to live our lives in a vault does not mean that we need to abandon all that which made America great in the first place. Without democracy, are we even American anymore? Still, this is not like it was before. We can't just ignore the position we find ourselves in. I will remain as Overseer, but we will hold elections to form a vault council to advise me, and the rest of the department heads, on matters related to the vault. We'll work out the details later, but I think this compromise is the best alternative."
You look at the ladies staring back at you in disbelief. There seems to be general consent . . . or at least no major opposition to the proposal, so you decide to move on.
You clear your throat and continue. "Okay, next there was the adaptation of marital relationships. What are your thoughts on the subject?"
"Given that you are the only male in the vault; I think we need to completely abandon the artificial practice of marriage," says Doctor Romero. "Even if we tried to keep the practice, you could not possibly be faithful to your wife. You need to impregnate most, if not all of us to try to keep some measure of genetic diversity even with my modified FEV."
"Now see here!" says your mother, "just because you're some kind of hedonistic deviant is no reason why the rest of us should give up on morality and decency. Tay can provide sperm as a doner for those who want it, and still have a monogamous relationship with a woman when he gets older."
"That is unrealistic in the extreme," says Chief Runningdeer. "I'm fine with you teaching your children to be monogamous, but it should be up to each person whether they want to be monogamous, polygamous, or whatever they want to be in their relationships. You aren't the morality police. You are the security chief. It's not your place to legislate morality."
The ladies argue over the issue for a time, and you come to a decision. "Excuse me ladies," you say, somehow silencing the room once more. "I've come to a decision."
That decision is?
