You were surprised that the infirmary was not in the newly renovated wing of the building, but instead was shoved back to the end of an old hall, where the science laboratories were. In a way it made sense, the labs would be the logical place a serious injury could occur, so having the infirmary right next door was practical. The door was ajar, so you knocked lightly before entering.

The inside of the infirmary was much less sordid than it’s surroundings. It had been recently painted white, and it included all you would expect form a small school healing station. There were several cabinets with bandages, band-aids, and an assortment of medications. On a corner you could see a couple of crutches, some protections for legs and arms, a first-aid kit, a portable stretcher and a folded wheelchair.

When the headmaster introduced you to the staff, you found it curious that the nurse wasn’t present. True you had been more worried about the reaction of the teachers, but for the most part they had been pretty amiable or at worst indifferent.

Now, after ascertain the extent that your duties would encompass, you realize you would have to work with the nurse to ensure the children were safe and in case any punishment would require her expertise. With that in mind, you left your office and walked to the infirmary, following the map the secretary had given you.

In your days as a student there was no infirmary on the school grounds. Whenever someone got hurt their parents were called, or the child simply sent walking home. Apparently even backwater towns like this had to update their safety norms once in a while.

It had been recently painted white, and it included all you would expect from a small school healing station. There were several cabinets with bandages, band-aids, and an assortment of medications. In a corner you could see a couple of crutches, some protections for legs and arms, a first-aid kit, a portable stretcher and a folded wheelchair.

Half the room was occupied by all these articles plus a small desk and a little corner where a weighing and height scale could be used to take a student’s measures. The other half of the room was filled by two small beds with white sliding curtains, currently empty.

You weren’t looking at any of those details though, since what captured your attention was the current occupant of the infirmary.
