Let's Begin!
September 10th
Everyone was gathered around for a 'family meeting', my mom, Melissa, was telling us why she had called this meeting. "We are going to go camping for a few days, starting on the 17th." She paused and waited for the us to react.
Derrick loved the outdoors, he was very eager when he heard this, his mind was already flooded with images of him camping in the outdoors. I, however, was not so excited, I didn't really like the outdoors, I was a very girly girl, always pretending to be a princess and wearing dresses and stuff. Derrick was practically jumping in his seat, meanwhile, I was about to open my mouth to complain, when mom started talking again.
"We will have one really warm day, the day we leave, then it will be colder, almost winter temperatures, so pack some summer clothes as well as winter clothes, one day will get down to 30 degrees and will have some snow." She told us the weather while smiling the whole time, even though she was telling us somewhat bad news.
I was mad, I couldn't try to get us to cancel the trip, Derrick was too excited, and on top of that, it was outside in the cold! Once we were dismissed, Derrick went to his room to start preparing. I need to get out of this somehow. I thought, "Can I stay home please, mom?" I asked in the cutest, most innocent voice I could muster.
"No, you can't stay home, you will be all alone and besides, it will be a lot of fun!" She tried to reassure me, then I got an idea.
"Dad doesn't seem super eager either, he can stay with me." I pleaded, it was true, my dad was not as eager as mom or Derrick, but he still wanted to go. So, instead of mom answering(she probably would still have said no...), he answered.
"Hey! I want to go!" He said it a little meaner than he had meant, but he decided it was fine. I knew I had been defeated, but I tried one last time.
"I could stay at my friend's house!" I suggested and prayed for her to say yes, she didn't, she said no. I got up and went into my bedroom, I didn't know what to do, I guess I kind of have to go.. I thought, so I started packing for the trip.
