Thinking it over, bunking with a younger cousin would probably be the easiest option. If anyone is going to listen to you it would probably be him. Maybe you can fake being cool somehow and he’d believe it, even look up to you. But that has to be the simplest answer to your problem. Nothing could give you more freedom than the power to boss around the younger brother you don’t have. Heck, if you want the cabin to yourself for a while you could just tell him to get lost. And, if he’s super cool about it, maybe he’d even cover for you or stand lookout while you took some private time for yourself.

Striding to the back of the bus you do your best to blank your face and adopt the cool indifference of an older more jaded teenager before you slide your butt onto the bench seat beside him. You silently force him to move in, pushing the girl beside him closer to the window as well.

"Andrew, right?"

"Justice!" she scolds you coyly. "His name’s Brayden!"

"Uh, yeah, yeah, I knew that," you insist with a wave of your hand. "Just teasing. Hey, listen. I’ve got an offer for you." Hunching forward, glancing around conspicuously, you lower your voice. "You listening?"

Brayden first looks to the girl beside him, possibly his sister (although to you they look the same age) before he turns back at you and nods, both of them leaning in closer.

"I know about a sweet cabin out here that almost no one else knows about. It’s way outside of camp, totally private. But I can’t, umm... there aren’t enough cabins for me to take one all by myself and if I don’t find someone quick then I won’t get it. So I thought, if you wanted, that you could come help me claim it, to come bunk with me, before someone else takes it."

"Really?" Dazzled by such an unexpected opportunity, Brayden shoots a grin to his sis before swallowing his excitement, trying to act cool. "Yeah! That... sounds alright."

"Cool. When we get to camp, just get off the bus quick so we can haul ass and make sure we get out there first, 'kay?"

"Sure!"

You give a casual nod then stand up to return to the front of the bus. Looking back you can see the siblings whispering excitedly. You bet Brayden is bragging incessantly about it already. That’s what you’d do to your sister if you got the opportunity to rub something in her face like this.

You announce to your parents that you invited your younger cousin Brayden to stay with you for the week. Trepidation grips you a moment, pensive over their response as mom seems surprised, but if anything they are proud of you. You suppose they think it was a considerate gesture for you to play big brother for a week for a younger kid, which is something you’re more than happy to play into if it makes you look better.
