Well, just because changing his gender wasn't obvious dosn't mean that it's hopeless. Changing his age would surely leave a visible change in his body . . . er her body? Either way, you should be able to tell right away. You definitely don't want to make him older. You have enough problems with him as he is. One of the only things that makes his "jokes" tolerable is that he still has just a bit of younger brother respectful fear. Without that, you imagine things could get intolerable very quickly.

You poise your thumb over the minus button on what would normally be the volume control, then focus on your little brother . . . or sister . . . as they play their game. You press the button once thinking of them as younger. You see no noticeable change. You press it a second time . . . still nothing. You then hold it down. Suddenly what was now obviously very slight changes become much more noticeable. You see Hank start to shrink before your eyes. The change isn't terribly rapid, but it is a noticeable change.

"Hey," says Hank suddenly, "what the hell! I'm shrinking!" Your new sister turns to you in a panic, her phone forgotten. "Jeremy, help me! I'm shrinking!"

She looks at least a full year younger now. She probably doesn't realize that she's a girl yet. The first order of business is what to let her know about your new toy . . .

Do you gloat about the device?

Or do you tell her about it in a nice way?

Do you keep the remote secret?
