Angel Abilities

An angel is a servant to the Judeo-Christian God, YHWH. They are winged humanoids, though their appearance varies by their stature. They are the servants of God while humanity are his children. By this factor they are inferior to humanity in God's eyes, but still have some power over them. Angels are NOT superior to humans, they are our father's servants.

  • Gender: Angels are androgynous hermaphrodites. They are generally referred to as "he", though there are occasional exceptions. Angels tend to be small-breasted, allowing them to pass as a full male as easily as they can a female. Not ALL angels are small-breasted, however.
  • Hierarchy: An angel's appearance is determined by their stature and standing within the heavenly host.
    • The first sphere of angelic hierarchy are the heavenly counselors. They are rarely seen on Earth so I will only describe their duties and appearance, not their abilities.
      • Seraphim: Seraphim have three pair of wings (that's six wings). They are the highest order of angels and are responsible for the care of the throne of God and give him council.
      • Cherubim: Cherubim do NOT look like little babies with wings (those are putti, and were confused with cherubim). Cherubim have two pair of wings (four wings). They have four faces, that of a man, an ox, a lion, and an eagle. They God's guards, guarding both the Garden of Eden and God's throne.
      • Ophanim: Ophanim (also known as Thrones) are the symbols of God's power, they are not humanoid, but appear as a wheel within a wheel, their rims covered with hundreds of eyes.
    • The second sphere of angelic hierarchy are the heavenly governors. They are also rarely seen on Earth so once again I will only describe their duties and appearance, not their abilities.
      • Dominions: Dominions (also known as Lordships or Hashmallim) regulate the duties of lower angels and preside over nations. It is exceedingly rare that the angelic lords make themselves physically known to humans. They have one pair of wings, and can be distinguished from other angels by a sphere of light that is fastened to the head of their scepter or the pommel of their sword.
      • Virtues: Virtues (also known as Strongholds) supervise the movements of the heavenly bodies (stars, planets, galaxies, etc.) to ensure that the cosmos remains in order. They have no special distinguishing features.
      • Powers: Powers (also known as Authorities) are God's historians and personal guard. They are also responsible for the distribution of power among humanity.
    • The third sphere of angelic hierarchy are the heavenly messengers and soldiers. These are the angels that regularly visit Earth, and therefor will be fully detailed (at some point).
      • Archangels: Archangels are God's military might. These are the soldier angels, and are sent to deliver God's wrath. There are seven Archangels, and they each hold more positions that just Archangel (for instance Michael is also Seraphim). They bear flaming swords.
        • The Archangel Michael: Michael is the commander-in-chief of the angelic armies. He is responsible for meting out God's justice, and overseeing the portion of the heavenly host that are tasked with defense or combat. Michael is Seraphim, and therefore has three pairs of wings (six-wings). He has taken Sammael's place as the greatest of all angels.
        • The Archangel Gabriel: Gabriel is God's personal messenger. He is in charge of all of the heavenly host's messenger angels. Like all archangels he is also a leader of the heavenly host in times of bloodshed. Gabriel is a Cherubim, but unlike other Cherubim he has a human head and body. He bears two pair of wings (four wings) as all Cherubim. Gabriel is charged with sounding the call to war.
        • The Archangel Raphael: Raphael is God's sage. He took over Sammael's position as Chief of the Powers when Sammael was cast down. As a Power he has only a single pair of wings (two wings).
        • The Archangel Phanuel: Phanuel is in charge of penance, and distributing God's forgiveness and mercy. While he is a Throne angel, he has a humanoid form rather than the form of a wheel within a wheel covered with eyes. He has no wings, but flies none-the-less.
        • The Archangel Uriel: Uriel is God's jailor. Uriel is the keeper of the key to Sheol (Hell). Uriel is a Dominion, and presides over the United States of America in his capacity as a Dominion.
        • The Archangel Raguel: Raguel is God's chief justice. Raguel is a Virtue, and is set the charge of overseeing the movement of the solar system in this regard.
        • The Archangel Sariel: Sariel is the last angel to be promoted to archangel with the fall of Sammael. He is the Chief of the Principalities, and therefore is the chief guardian and educator of the realm of Earth. As a Principality he wears a crown and carries a scepter.
      • Principalities: Principalities (also known as Rulers) are angels that give blessings to the material world. They are the guardians and educators of the realm of Earth. They wear crowns and carry scepters.
      • Angels: Angels are the lowest order of the angelic hierarchy, and the most common. They aid the other angels in whatever needs to be done. They are the foot soldiers and messengers.
  • Abilities: Angels were created with a great deal of power, but much of it comes from a direct connection to heaven. If this connection is ever severed, the angel falls, and must thereafter use the write-up for fallen angels below.
    • Flight: All angels, except for Thrones, have wings. All angels, including Thrones can fly. The speed at which angels can fly is variable, but an average speed is mach 5.
    • Soul Reading: Angels can sense the weight of a soul, and inherently know the sinful and virtuous deeds that a being has performed at any time in their lives.
    • Invisibility: Angels can become invisible or visible at will.
    • Intangibility: Angels can become intangible or tangible at will.
    • Physical Prowess: Angels are extremely physically strong and fast. Their abilities in this area are on par with an ancient vampire.
    • Indomitable Spirit: Angels cannot be affected by mind or emotion altering effects, except those of devils, other angels, or YHWH himself.
    • Space-time Warping: Angels can warp space-time. This allows them to perform an amazing number of effects.
      • Faster than Light Travel: Angels can warp space-time in such a manner that they effectively move faster than the speed of light. This is only an illusion however since they are actually moving space itself, and are not in motion themselves.
      • Time Dilation: Angels can speed up, or slow down the passage of time. Very powerful angels, like archangels can even stop the flow of time around them for a period of subjective time.
      • Wormholes: Angels can connect two points of space-time to create stable wormholes.
    • Faith Magi: All angels that have not fallen are accomplished Faith Magi.
    • Dominion: Angels are given certain powers over mankind. These are granted by God, and are not innate powers. Because these powers come from God, those who do don't believe in his existence AT ALL are immune to these effect. It is hard not to believe in the existence of God at least a little bit when in the presence of an angel however.
      • Awesome Presence: Angels radiate the presence of God, which fills onlookers with a sense of awe and / or fear, depending on their nature.
      • Mind Reading: Angels can see into the deepest depths of mortal minds. Only the very strongest can resists their powers, and there are none save gods that can block an archangel's mind reading.
      • Divine Edict: Angels can channel the voice of God to make commands that must be immediately obeyed. The commands must be very brief, no more than two words. Doing so drains the angel. Most angels can issue edicts only once a day.
