"Are you nervous, Hannah?" you ask the confused girl reassuringly.

"Yes, a bit,“ she answers with a slight tremor in her voice.

"You don't have to be, little one," you go on. "Come to me, dear, sit on my lap for a while, I promise you nothing will happen to you. I just want to talk to you."

The little girl is still visibly nervous, but finally sits down on your lap after a long hesitation and looks at you uncertainly.
