Wish/Matthew/Steakhouse/Information
You should really get a handle on this whole thing with the ring and the mastery of a jinni and such before you get too lost in the girl that comes with it. Ignorance is not bliss as far as you're concerned, knowledge is power.
"So how does this whole ring thing work?" you ask, gazing at the amethyst ring on your right ring finger.
"About time," says Allorah with a snort.
"Excuse me?" you ask.
"Well, it's just usually my masters are all, 'Oh wow a genie. I wish I had a million wishes.' But you're all, 'I must rescue the damsel in distress. Let's make you comfortable. Is there anything you need. Wow you're the most beautiful thing I've ever seen.' I'm just glad that you aren't completely selfless or might have started to throw up."
You find yourself a little embarrassed at her comparison, but it's a fair one. You have been all about her, and her needs since she showed up in your life. "I don't think I ever said any of those things directly . . . and do people actually wish for more wishes? What a waste of a wish. As human beings we get to make as many wishes as we want. It's having the wishes granted that is special, not the wishes. I wish things all the time; I didn't have to get a jinni's permission for them. If anything wishing for a million wishes would limit the person's life to the millionth time they wanted something; then pfft," you make a slashing motion across your throat, "bye, bye world."
"Ooooh," says Allorah, "that's good. I'm going to use that." She then looks up at you, blushing a bit. "Not on you, of course. You're actually the kindest master that I've ever had."
"Well, I hope I don't disappoint you. Though I suppose 'nice guy' is one of my main roles in this world. That may be why I always feel like I'm finishing last."
"I certainly hope so," she says coyly, "a girl has to get hers too."
You blush from the sexual reference, and clear your throat. "So, about the ring. How does it work? What are the rules?"
"You bring me from the ring by saying my name. If the ring is on you hand instead of in it you won't get burned again . . . as long as you have it pointed away from you, that is. You may send me back into the ring whenever you like by telling me to go back into the ring . . . or even wordlessly willing me back into the ring. You have seven 'wishes' as you like to say in the modern world. Actually you may give me seven commands. I can use any of my abilities to fulfill the commands. If you wish for a sandwich, I'm not going to bother using my magic, I'll just make a sandwich and bring it to you."
"That makes sense," you say.
"Once I have completed a command, one of the diamonds on the ring will go dark. That way you always know how many wishes you have left. After I fulfill your seventh command, I am drawn back into the ring and cast to a random part of the world."
"Because the maker of your ring has no remaining descendant. I remember. So what can you do? Or would it be easier to tell me what you can't do? What are the rules?"
"I am a very powerful jinni. I am from the most powerful jinn family in all of Djinnistan . . . or I was. I haven't been back there since I was sealed in the ring. My father was Fuqtus, King of the Jinn. When I am at my full power there will be little that is beyond my ability; though I am no god. Even at my current age there isn't much I can't do, unless you get really ambitious. The ring limits my powers somewhat where it comes to my master. I can only harm my master by their command or in self defense."
"You are allowed to defend yourself? That is an enlightened enchantment to put on a slave."
"Not really," she says with a sigh, "Akbar, the sorcerer that made my ring, didn't want any of his clients damaging his property."
"Oh," you say, turning your eyes down, "I'm sorry."
"What for?" she asks. "You didn't do anything to me."
"Still, I am sorry that you had to endure a man like that."
"Well, we all have our burdens," she says with a chuckle.
"So, there is something else . . . "
"Yes?" she replies.
"Back at the house you healed my arm . . . but the ring still has seven bright diamonds . . . "
"Oh," she says blushing, "my magic is not totally limited to fulfilling commands. I have some leeway in how I use it. There are serious limits when I'm not fulfilling commands, but most transportation, healing, and production of innocuous items is permitted. I healed your arm because I wanted to . . . so no 'wish' was used."
"Well, thank you Allorah," you say sincerely.
"You're welcome," she says with a blush.
"Wait . . . 'production of innocuous items'? So, we didn't need to go shopping? You could have just poofed yourself a wardrobe?"
"Yes?" she says with a shy shrug, "but then we wouldn't have had a fun shopping trip."
You chuckle lightly. "I suppose we wouldn't have at that."
