It's technically not a life-long commitment, as it's all just a game in the end. Emilia can just take the mark off at any time, flip the bird to Laura, and refuse to be a slave, and if she ever does, there's nothing Laura can do according to the rules. (Or, if Laura tries, she would have to do it outside the "game", but that would kind of invalidate the whole premise of this story, being about that very "game".) But still, I get what you mean. Laura and Emilia should both tread very lightly.
