The twins have been referred by the nursery they both attend. You park outside the detached house where they live and read the paperwork. The girl speaks excellent English and offers tea, which you accept. The tray arrives, carried by a man in his sixties. He is slim and wiry-looking, with a shock of grey hair. He's wearing shorts and a polo shirt and his feet are bare. You go through the introductions and explain why you are there. "Where are the children," you ask.
He takes you through to the playroom. This is a big, airy room, with picture windows that open out onto a considerable garden. There are toys scattered about: two rocking horses set up for a race, some of those soft blocks, two toy boxes, and a wooden train track. In the middle of the floor there is a set of gym mats laid out in a square and there are the twins, supervised by a young Eurasian woman - not the one from earlier.
