Life Hacks/Suggest including Roni in the process
"I guess I have the time to work with him. It might help if I bring Roni along. Having someone his own age involved would probably ease the process."
"That sounds wonderful. Give me your phone and I'll put my number in." You smile and hand her your phone. She quickly types in her number, then hands your phone back. "I really appreciate this. I think you could be a very positive role model for my son."
"Always glad to help a fellow underdog."
The two of you casually talk for the rest of the game. Once the game ends, you see the kids returning to their parents. Roni is dashing over to you, but Dante is making much slower progress. Roni jumps into your arms at the last minute. You catch her easily, and pull her into a warm embrace. You put your arm under her butt with your hand on her thigh and hold her at your side. She slips her arm around your shoulder automatically. It's odd that you can carry her this way. You barely even notice her weight.
"Didya see that last hit? POW! That sucka was outta here!"
"You did great, Roni. Maybe you'll play in the Majors when you grow up."
"They don't let girls play on the Major League teams."
"Not yet," you say, "but things are changing all the time." Your enhanced mind allows you to remember something you saw on television when you weren't paying attention. "There's even a new show based on a woman joining a Major League team."
"Really?"
"Really."
Dante finally reaches his mom. He is smiling, but seems a little out of breath. You analyze him quickly. You estimate that his problem most likely stems from a lack of proper nutrition, and lack of regular exercise. You can detect no outward signs of any debilitating condition that is limiting his potential.
"Dante," says Patricia, "you did great out there." She pulls her son in for a deep hug and he blushes from the public affection.
"I'm trying," he says, "but I'm still not as good as the other kids."
"Ah, you'll get better kid," says Roni, "you just need some practice." You feel proud of her for building up the weak boy instead of tearing him down.
"Thanks," he says.
"Dante," says Patricia, "this is Xander, Roni's brother. He knows a few things about baseball. Do you think you'd like him and Roni to give you a few pointers?"
"Really?" he asks, his eyes getting big.
"Really," you say with a laugh, "if you want to."
"Oh boy do I ever!" he says, then excitedly grabs your hand and starts pulling you toward the baseball diamonds.
