Ayaka is Yuu's only maternal aunt, as well as Naomi's mother.
Personality
Her entire life, Ayaka has been highly skilled at reading people, interpreting all of the subtle clues people unintentionally present, making her the type of person that it's nearly impossible to keep secrets from. She uses this skill to great effect at her job, where she works as a therapist and counselor. Besides Natsu herself, of course, she was the first person to figure it out the first time Natsu got pregnant. Being able to read people like this has lead her to something of a 'seen it all' type of attitude, making it very difficult to shock her.
Never married, she has been in and out of relationships her whole life. Not because she's bad at them - the vast majority of them have ended amicably - but rather because she eventually becomes bored. Thus far, her longest relationship lasted about a year and a half. Truthfully, most of her relationships have worked more like a friends with benefits type situation than anything actually romantic.
Compared to her younger sister, she is very much the sexually adventurous one. She's always been amazed that somehow Natsu managed to lose her virginity before her, and has since become the type that enjoys sex enough that she will try (almost) anything once, and generally is of the opinion of the kinkier, the better.
History
She spent her earliest years living with her mother and younger sister in her grandparent's house. She doesn't remember there ever being a time when she didn't have a sister, as Natsu is only about ten months younger than her.
When she got pregnant with Naomi in high school, she discussed with her boyfriend at the time what they should do about it. While they both agreed that they wanted to keep the child, they also agreed that neither one of them would likely be happy if they got married, and broke up a short while later. At this point their relationship is distant, and exists mainly to allow Naomi to maintain some small measure of contact with her father.
It can't be said that she's a neglectful mother, but she hasn't thrown herself into it nearly as much as Natsu has, and has done her best to foster a large degree of independence in Naomi. When Naomi was younger it was not uncommon for her to get Natsu to babysit while she would go out and enjoy the bar scene. And she's always made sure that she never brings guys home with her while Naomi was home.
Character Conception
There's not a lot to say about it, actually. I assume the archetype of the lecherous aunt is something I picked up from doujinshi somewhere. Initially I planned to make her 35 instead 34. (yeah, some big difference, right?) However, it wasn't until after I decided on Natsu's birthday, as well as written the excerpt where she joins the harem, that I decided to work out when everybody else's birthday was. Given the plan was for her mother, Megara, to become pregnant again as quickly as humanly possible after having Ayaka, based on when Natsu's birthday was, that put Ayaka's birthday firmly in September, after she's joined the harem.
