The more Sally thought about it, the less spending any more time in there appealed to her. She might be hidden for the moment, but if anyone did find her, it would be a boy, and she'd be alone with him naked... that filled her with a certain fear she wasn't quite old enough to understand.

She waited until she heard the door open and close, silently counted to twenty, and cautiously crept out of the stall. Finally, she pushed the door open and looked around before exiting into the hallway. It was a good plan, but unfortunately the other student hadn't gone directly back to his class; he paused to look at display about the summer sports program, which was posted near the door. And even more unfortunately, it was positioned such that the open door blocked her view of him until she let it close behind her.

The second she did see him, she turned to run, but it was too late; he had seen her too.

"Hey what the hell? What were you doing in there and why are you naked!?"

Sally didn't bother to reply, not that she could have formed a coherent sentence anyway. All that came out was out was an involuntary "Eeep!" as she ran dawn the hall.

"Wait up! You can't do that in school!" The older boy certainly could have caught her if he'd gone straight into a full-on sprint, but it took him several seconds to believe what he was seeing, and by the time his brain did catch up, he realized being seen chasing a naked girl through the school might not look great for him either. But he couldn't just let it go either, this was the most interesting thing that had happened at school in ages. He compromised and followed her at a brisk walk, hoping not to lose sight of her completely.

Sally of course hoped for just the opposite. Halfway down the hall, as she passed the stairs, she looked back and was disappointed, but not really surprised, to see him still following. He looked familiar, but she couldn't put a name to him... hopefully that was mutual. Looking backwards while running forwards has some obvious problems though, as she quickly discovered when she ran into a cart full of craft supplies.

Bang! Colored paper, markers and who knows what else scattered in all directions as Sally tumbled over the cart. It could not be said that she handled this "gracefully" as such, since a graceful person would not have hit it, but she did have a certain amount of experience with falling down, plus a great deal of motivation to be on her feet, and somehow managed to get back up without even coming to a complete stop.

None the less, this multiplied her problems. A teacher was sure to come investigating the crash any minute. Her mind was racing as fast as her feet, trying to think of any place to hide. First she considered the girl's room, but she'd be cornered in there. Then she remembered there was also a small secondary stairway at the end of the hall. It was intended for emergencies, and students were often chided for using it as a shortcut, but that certainly wasn't going to stop her now.

She took one last look back before she darted into the stairwell, and was surprised to see the boy was no longer visible. Where had he gone? She also saw the huge mutli-colored mess she'd made and winced at that. She felt guilty about it, but it couldn't be helped. It wasn't like she could just stop and help clean up wearing only her shoes and socks.

The enclosed stairwell felt like a refuge, but she only dared linger long enough to catch her breath. Even if the boy had stopped following, someone would be through there sooner or later. And especially after that crash, she wanted to get as far from there as she could. That left downstairs as her only option, but she didn't like it much. The ground floor was a somewhat larger, which could mean more hiding places, but it also featured a very open lobby where she would be exposed from all directions.

She shivered as she stepped into this. Again there was no one immediately visible, but there were easily a dozen places someone could appear from suddenly and catch her at any moment. She didn't like that thought at all. She didn't know where she was going either, aside from a vague hope that she might still find the janitor's closet. Still, it seemed best to keep moving.

But she hadn't walked more than twenty steps when someone came into view on the main stairs. It was that boy again! And worse, Mrs. McKay was with him. McKay had never been her teacher, but she was a teacher all the same, and at least in Sally's mind, that meant a whole new level of being in trouble if she was seen. The only hiding place within reach was a potted ficus tree. It was far from ideal, but as long as they didn't come closer it should do the job. She sprinted the last few steps to reach this and ducked behind, listening for any sign that burst of movement had caught their attention.

"Are you sure that's really what happened? You know, you'll get in far less trouble if you can simply explain yourself than you will with an unbelievable excuse about a streaker."

"I swear, Mrs. McKay, that's what happened. There was really a naked girl in the boy's room and she ran away and crashed into the cart when she saw me. I know it sounds crazy..."

"And at first you claimed she went to the girl's lavatory room, but Ms. Davis checked and found it empty."

"Well, I didn't actually watch her go in, I assumed because of where she started and the way she was going. I thought maybe it was like a stunt, you know? She could have clothes hidden in the other bathroom and..."

(Secretly, Lindsey McKay thought that sounded like something she would have greatly enjoyed 30 years ago, but she cut his speculation short none the less.)

"People don't just disappear though. The only other place she could have gone is down the fire stairs, and you don't see any streakers, here do you?"

"No..."

Sally was initially relieved. Clearly they hadn't see here yet, but she slowly realized they were coming her way. On the other hand it kind of sounded like they were ready to give up... But the conversation continued.

"I guess it can't hurt to check the theater room, it's about the only place to hide down here."

"Maybe that's where she went. Thanks for believing me enough to look."

Sally felt at once foolish for not having thought of that, lucky that she hadn't, and terrified because they would have to walk past her to get there. She tried to make herself as small as possible, almost curling into a ball. The cold floor on her bare backside made feel even more exposed. There was no way they could not notice her... And still, the conversation continued.

"Why are you so sure you saw a girl, anyway? Wouldn't it make more sense for a boy to be in the boy's lavatory?"

"Well, she had long hair, and umm, Mrs. McKay, she was naked; I couldn't really not notice."

Right as he emphatically pronounced the word "naked", his shoes came into view not three feet from where Sally sat huddled behind the planter. She almost screamed, but instead just tried to compress herself even smaller.

Lindsey laughed. "Well, I guess 6th grade sex ed paid off for you. Fair point. Let's see if your mystery girl is in here. For your sake I hope so."

"Y-yeah, me too."

Hearing a door open and close, Sally dared to turn her head and look. They were gone. She couldn't believe it, they had been so wrapped up in their conversion they walked right past her. She was less thrilled to learn how good a look the boy had gotten earlier, but that was the least of her worries now.

She knew she needed to get away from there before Mrs. McKay and the boy came out again, but she was close to despair about finding any way out of her situation. As she approached the main lobby with the stairs, another idea occurred to her. It would still be embarrassing, but maybe less than anything else. Right by the stairs was the nurse's office. Ben had already seen her naked anyway, knew part of the story about her uniform, and besides, he was really nice. If Elly was right about what happened, maybe he could even get her some new clothes that actually fit.

Sally made her way towards the nurse's office, feeling resigned. But right at the last minute, even as she had her hand raised to knock, she saw it. Below the stairs was a door she'd seen a hundred times but never paid attention to. And there at the top, it said "23-G Janitorial".

She ran over and tried the door. It was locked of course, which worried her at first, because she didn't remember what happened to the key, but she soon realized she'd been clutching it in her left hand the entire time. And it worked!

Sally slipped into the closet as quick as could be. It it was rather large for a closet, and full of cleaning supplies as expected, but she only saw the inside for a moment. Once she pulled the door shut she was in darkness. She spent a minute or two trying to figure out how to lock the door behind her, but this didn't seem possible. She just hoped no one would think to look for her there.

She felt her way to where she had seen a stack of cleaning rags and sat down, breathing a sigh of relief. She actually made it. The fact that one boy had seen her was worrying, but he didn't seem to recognize her, so maybe she'd be OK. She just wanted out of this situation and wished James would come and rescue her soon. She didn't know the exact time, but she expected she'd still be waiting a while.
