Mr. Vice, the man who taught Sally's fourth grade class, narrowed his eyes at his tardy student through his square-rimmed glasses. "You're late," he said.
Sally swallowed and tried to catch her breath. "I know. And I'm sorry. I forgot what time it was and I ..." Her voice trailed off as she realized that no excuse she gave would be enough to get her out of trouble.
"Well, then," Mr. Vice said, a hint of a smile on his lips. "You know what happens to students who are tardy."
Mr. Vice was a strong proponent of corporal punishment. Some people might consider that to be old fashioned, but it got results! Any sort of unwanted behavior among children (girls, especially) could be curbed with an appropriate application of spankings. That ... that wasn't just so he could get his hands on their sweet, tender bottoms, of course not! Mr. Vice was a well respected member of the community! He was just a bit ... strict.
Mr. Vice pulled out a chair and set it in the front of the classroom. "Do you want the ruler or the hand?" he asked.
That was the one choice the tardy student got. Sally could either take twenty strokes with the ruler (one for every minute she was late) over her skirt, or twenty strokes from Mr. Vice's hand under her skirt. The hand didn't hurt as much, and the last time Sally had gotten a spanking the teacher's hand had an almost gentle, caressing quality to it, but she might end up showing the whole class the shorts she was (supposed to be) wearing, which revealed a lot more leg than she was comfortable with.
