Epilogue

It was wonderful while it lasted but sad the way things abruptly came to an end. The housing association had petitioned for an eviction order from the courts and it was granted. It was a surprise to me when the girls didn’t come by like they usually did and when I visited their flat, the door was open and nothing but rubbish remained inside the unit. A neighbour informed me that bailiffs had forced them to leave early that morning. I was so in love with the girls, especially little Celia, I was gutted; devastated beyond comprehension.

My remedy was to drown my sorrows in drink. I simply couldn’t handle what had just transpired and didn’t know how to bear it any other way. The sad sack I turned into had nothing in life to look forward to anymore. Then, I cursed myself for giving my heart so freely and having it crushed. It was now up to me to learn to adjust and live without the sunshine the sweet little girls had brought to me for such a short period of time.

After three days of drinking myself into oblivion, I had just opened my eyes when I saw small multi-coloured streak flashed through the room and landed on my midsection where I had passed out on the sofa. The tiny apparition cried and covered my face with kisses telling me, “I love you Mister Bill,” and showered me with even more kisses and salty little tears.

As soon as my eyes had focused and I saw who it was, I screamed, “Celia, I love you so much. What are you doing here? I heard bailiffs came and forced your family to leave.”

“I runned away,” she informed me, “Can me and my sisters live with you? We don’t like the people we have to live with.”

“Of course you can, little love. You and your sisters can live with me for as long as it takes for me to move heaven and earth so you can live with me forever,” and I meant it. It would kill me if I lost them again.

“Will you marry me? You have to marry my sisters too.”

“You bet!” I told her before I gave her a tender kiss to seal the promise.
