Biography
Vernon grew up in Mahogany Hills. He was one of the brightest students in the school in his time, and managed to make it into medical school with the full financial support of most of the power-players in town with the understanding that he would open a practice in town to fill the much-needed role of town doctor once he got out of medical school. During the time he was in school, the town also supported his wife and kids, so he owes the town a lot for this support. After having successfully graduated 4 years ago, he set up his practice also with the aid of the officials in the town.
Vernon feels somewhat conflicted over the fact that he was unable to escape from the stifling air of the town, but he cannot deny that he has been treated rather well since he took up the role of the town's only doctor. His practice is still supported by the town, and thanks to that combined with having all the people in town as clients he has managed to make quite a bit and can afford to support his wife and kids in comfort.
Because of the large debt he owes the town officials, he is very much aware of how much control they have over him. As such, although he is quite opposed to the school's new disciplinary program, he pretends on the surface to be fully in support of it and has already made preparations for providing pre-natal care to the young girls he is sure will be showing up pregnant soon. He is well aware that the town officials practically own him, and so he is not really able to do anything about it.
Due to the customs of the town and their opposition to even the knowledge of sex spreading to the children, he has withheld this knowledge from his own children as well. In fact, they are some of the less informed at their age about the subject of sex.
