School Activities

She is part of the school reserve cheerleader squad. Diya joined the squad at the insistence of her sister, trying to help her get more friends. Diya doesn’t really enjoy it, since she can see how close it is to her mothers’ work, where men come to see them just for their bodies. She did managed to make a friend of fifth-grader Lindsey, who was clearly unhappy with being on the team as well. Also, Durai joined the football team last year, so she can chat with him as well.

Biography

Like her sister, Diya was born in the town’s brothel. Unlike her sister, however, her earlier life was a lot more stable due to what her mother learned from her first experience, and she started school on time. The friends and connections she made early on helped her to avoid some bullying later, especially Durai, to whom she felt she could relate until this year, when his mom turned out to be their teacher, and Diya really doesn’t like how she behaves in class and how she singles her out.

School is stressful to Diya, having to be constantly on alert against the comments of bullies and teacher alike. After school she sometimes go to the Moore residence where her sister works, and where she can play like a kid with the twins her sister babysits for.

While at home she calls Janne mom and Mariette mother, but knows that outside she must kept their relationship a secret, and treat Mariette just as another aunt.

More recently, the bullying has begun to pick up, but she has her small circle of friends that help to protect her. A little over a month ago though, there is one particular boy, August Fine, and his friend, Freddy Lefort, who have been particularly bad to her. She is afraid, based on some of the things that they’ve said, that their abuse of her may become sexual at some point if things are left to continue. She has expressed this to her mothers and sister, and her sister has promised to do something about it.
