Dwarf

Attribute Ranges

  • Body: Average to Exceptional (5-8)
  • Mind: Weak to Superb (3-7)
  • Spirit: Pitiful to Above Average (1-6)

Abilities

  • Infravision: Dwarves can see into the infrared spectrum, allowing them to see objects that put off heat even in total darkness.
  • Magic Resistant: Dwarves have a natural resistance to magic that also impairs spellcasting.

Biology

Appearance

Dwarves are thick, short fey-descended humanoids.

  • Height: Dwarves tend to be shorter than humans. Averaging between 3'6" and 4' tall. Particularly tall dwarves can reach as tall as 4'6". Dwarves proportions are such that they are generally half as wide as they are tall, making them look rather boxy.
  • Weight: Dwarves are quite a bit heavier than their height and build indicate. They are about twice as heavy as they appear that they should be. (Multiply the weight that they would be were they human by 2 to get the dwarf's weight.) Dwarves are so dense that they cannot float in water, and have great difficulty swimming.
  • Build: Dwarves are composed of dense, stone-like muscle. While a dwarf can have some weight to him, you'll never find a truly obese dwarf; though somewhat fat dwarves are not uncommon.
  • Bust: Dwarven females have a broad range of breast sizes; from tiny little AA-cup, all the way to the occasional H-cup.
  • Penis: Dwarven males have large penises for their size. Dwarves penises can get as large as 10". They are generally thicker than those of humans. Dwarves do not possess foreskins.
  • Skin: Dwarven skin is generally shades of peach, brown or gray.
  • Hair: Dwarven hair is generally brown, black, red or blond.
  • Eyes: Dwarven eyes can be any color.
  • Other details: Dwarves have thicker, fuller body hair than most humanoid races. Male and neuter dwarves grow thick coarse beards very quickly. If a dwarf were to shave their beard and go to sleep, they would have a full beard the next morning (equivalent to about a month's growth for a human). Dwarven beard growth slows down the longer the beard gets. Contrary to popular myth, dwarven women do not grow beards . . . unless you count crotch-beards or underarm-beards.

Genders

Dwarves can be Male, Female, of Neuter.

  • Neuter dwarves, called drones, are the most common. They have a simple urethra opening, which would be difficult for anything other than a fairy to penetrate. They can be used for anal sex, but have no sex drive, and derive no pleasure from sex. They are the predominate workforce and rank and file for the dwarvish army.
  • Male dwarves are the second most common gender of dwarf. They are generally the community leaders and decision-makers.
  • Female dwarves, called queens, are rather rare; and are protected and pampered, living a life of luxurious slavery. Dwarf queens spend most of their adult lives producing children. They do not have the level of difficulty in childbirth that most humanoid races do, and spring back from it quickly and fully.

Reproduction

Dwarves reproduce sexually

  • Dwarves can cross with any lesser, humanoid, or greater race.
  • 80% of dwarves are born as drones, 15% are born male, and only 5% are born queens.
  • Several males (usually of the same family) generally share a queen, and take turns impregnating her.
  • Twins are common among dwarves. Triplets are a bit more rare. Quadruplets aren't unheard of but are very rare.
  • Queens can give birth to more than one male's offspring in a single birthing.
  • Purely dwarven pregnancies last about 7 months.

Age

Dwarves age slower than humans.

  • Dwarven ages can be calculate by multiplying the age of their physical appearance were they human by 5.
  • A dwarf that is entering adolescence would be around 50-60 years old.
  • Dwarves reach maturity at around 90 years old and live to about 400 years.

Diet

Dwarves are Omnivores and Geovores.

  • Dwarves can eat meat, vegetation, and minerals.
  • Stones are central to a dwarf's diet, and cannot be left out.

Other Considerations

  • Because they are geovores, dwarven teeth are harder than most other humanoids. Dwarven teeth are composed of the hardest minerals that have been consumed by that particular dwarf. For this reason wealthy dwarves like to sprinkle diamond dust on their food like a human would salt. Less well-to-do dwarves must make do with sapphire dust, or even garnet dust for the very poor. In any case, dwarven teeth tend to sparkle with refracted light.

Spirituality

Worship

Dwarves practice a form of ancestor worship, rather than worshiping deities or following a philosophy.

  • There were no dwarven gods to be overthrown. The souls of the dwarven paragons gain power from the worship of their descendant, but most of this power is used to keep death from returning them to the stone.
  • They are still powerful entities, but weren't nearly a match for the deities when they were around. Now they are some of the most powerful beings in existence, but generally only concern themselves with dwarven affairs.

Afterlife

Dwarves do not have an afterlife.

  • Dwarves who die return to the stone, becoming one with their burial place.
  • Dwarves who do great deeds may be declared a paragon upon their death, in which case they live again through the worship of their descendants.

Other Considerations

  • Due to the nature of their beliefs, the dwarves are quite industrious and inventive. The quest to become a paragon drives the dwarves to greater and greater accomplishments, spurring the advancement of the race. This also can cause dwarves to push too far, and take unnecessary risks, which occasionally leads to disaster.

Magic and Technology

Magic

Dwarves are highly resistant to magic.

  • Dwarves cannot learn any magic that requires direct manipulation of magical energy.
  • Dwarves can learn Runic Magic. They actually invented it.
  • Spells cast on dwarves have a tendency to fizzle and fail, whether they are beneficial or detrimental.
    • More powerful spells have a better chance of working.
    • Spells that create a dangerous situation (a ball of fire, a bolt of lightning, etc.) do not fizzle when cast at a dwarf. Only spells whose magic tries to directly affect the dwarf (charm spells, transformation spells, sphere of truth, etc.)

Technology

While dwarves do embrace technology, and learn it quite easily, they prefer Magitech (the imbuing of magic into a constructed object).

  • Dwarves are not as advanced technologically as they might be if they couldn't fold magic into items. They are at a level equal to the middle ages.
  • Dwarves focus on forging magic directly into items, something they can do because of their resistance to magic.
  • Dwarves often use Runic Magic to further enchant their items.
  • ANY object forged by a dwarf that was trained by other dwarves is inherently magical; even something as simple as a spoon.

Culture

Dwarves are a stern, serious race of fey-descended humanoids.

Taboos

Dwarves have a ridged society with many rules and taboos, and exceptions to those rules and taboos.

  • Dwarves have a taboo against public nudity, but generally go unclothed in their own homes.
    • Dwarves have public baths in which public nudity is not only accepted, but expected.
  • Dwarves have a strong taboo against incest, however ritual incest is committed when a dwarven queen first comes of age.
    • Dwarves only have arranged marriages. Upon birth, a dwarf queen is promised to another house, usually for an exchange of goods and/or services.
    • When a dwarf queen first menstruates (usually around 50 or 60 years old), she there is a large celebration with the two families in attendance.
    • When the queen enters her first ovulation after menstruation, her family gathers for a second ceremony. Her virginity is taken by the eldest capable male of her house. She then must give handjobs to all the males of her house, collecting the semen in a jar. It is also good to note that this is an exception to the dwarven taboo against underage sex, as all males are serviced, even the very young. Once all of her family is serviced, the semen is packed in her vagina and she is plugged so it will not seep out via a special locked belt.
    • She is put into seclusion for three days, then is ritually cleaned and prepared for her new family.
    • She then participates in the marriage ceremony, and is transferred to her new house (under heavy guard).
    • She is nearly guaranteed to be pregnant through incest.
    • All other forms of incest are seen as disgusting by dwarves. This distinction seems rather strange to most outsiders.
  • Dwarves have a taboo against underage sex.
    • The dwarven age of manhood is 80 years old, and there is a large celebration. To have sexual activity before this is considered highly taboo.
    • A dwarven queen's transition to womanhood has been described above.
  • Dwarves have a very strong taboo against homosexuality. However there are exceptions to this taboo.
    • Dwarven queens of the same house regularly have sex with one another. This is seen as normal.
    • Dwarven males away from home may have anal sex with drones. Drones are usually considered mostly male, but this is not considered homosexuality.
    • When entering the army, a recruit is anally raped by his superiors as a right of passage upon graduation.
    • All other forms of homosexuality are considered disgusting.
  • Dwarves have a strong taboo against bestiality. This is one of the rare taboos without exceptions.
  • Dwarves have a taboo against building pools or cisterns that are deeper than 2'6". This is an understandable taboo. Deeper water is considered unlucky and to be avoided.
  • Possibly the greatest taboo of all to a dwarf is shaving of the beard. A dwarf must never shave his beard, or allow it to be shaved. Trimming a beard is permitted within reason. One of the most sever non-injurious punishments that a dwarf can endure is the shaving of their beard. Most dwarves would rather be flogged than have their beard shaved.

Residence

Most dwarves live in great cities carved from the living stone of mountain ranges.

  • Dwarven cities are carved from the living stone. They prefer to use subtractive construction, and only fall back on addative construction like stone and mortar when there is no other choice, such as repairs.
  • Dwarven architecture is over-sized, even for humans. Dwarven ceilings are high, their doors massive, and their rooms vast.
  • Dwarven furniture is carved from stone. Anything softer than stone is uncomfortable to a dwarf.

Other Considerations

  • Dwarven society is full of pomp and ceremony. Tradition and the semblance of honor are important to a dwarf. Dwarven politics are convoluted and rife with intrigue, back room deals, and betrayal. As long as one appears to be honorable, then all is well.
