God's Compensation/Give them just enough information to get the tests you need
“Hello, how can we help you today?” The receptionist asks in a gentle voice that is just happy enough not to be annoying to someone in pain.
“I.. uhh...” Ok, so what do you say? You don't really feel comfortable with telling just anyone you might be going crazy. Ok, so, you need to get a brain scan. That would be neurology. “Can you tell me witch way to the neurology department?” you ask them. They point you in the right direction and then you are on your way.
“Hello, what can I do for you today?” another receptionist asks you as you step up to the desk in the neurology department. Well, this is probably the point where you will need to say a little bit more, but you are still a little uncomfortable with telling them the whole story.
“I... uhh... had some strange visual hallucinations and thought maybe I should get that checked out.”
“Did this come on suddenly?” The receptionist asks. When you tell them yes, that today was the first time it happened and it was very intense, they tell you to wait and then pick up the phone. They relay to the person on the other end what you just told them, and then they tell you to give your name and insurance card, fill out some forms, and the doctor will see you shortly. Indeed, you hardly have the first form even half filled out before there is someone guiding you to a room in the back.
The doctor gives you some coordination exams and asks you about stress then orders some tests. He then tells you that he wants to get you in an MRI, but it might be a bit of a wait. He has you scheduled for the machine in about five hours, but if you want to wait in the waiting room then they might be able to get you in sooner.
