God's Compensation/Lore/Trust aura (lesser-god)
Those exposed to this aura will hesitate to think ill of the deity's intentions, and will not think as critically about his words. This effect though can be shaken if the listener can identify that they just told a lie or violated the trust of the person they were talking to. The effects of the aura can be reinstated after it fails in accordance with how strong the aura is and how badly it was shaken.
A lesser god has an aura strong enough to cause some rather noticeable effects in a person's behavior, and will make them trust the god in ways and under circumstances that an outside observer would find disturbing. However, clear examples of how the god is violating their trust will still shake them and the influence of this aura.
The lesser god's aura of trust is powerful enough that it can hamper a person's rational facilities for identifying whether or not the deity is lying. It either has to be a fairly obvious lie that directly conflicts with what is right in front of the person (they will not believe that the empty bowl on the table contains chips, but they might believe if told that the lesser god was not the one to eat them even if he was the only one in the room who could have eaten them.) It will also not convince someone with special informed knowledge in a subject the deity is speaking contradictory to (a doctor will not believe humans have two livers.) Lacking either of these clear tells though, someone not under the effects of the aura would have to point out the lie to the affected person. With enough convincing, the affected person can be persuaded out of believing the lesser god's lies.
If someone does find the lesser god is lying or has betrayed their trust, the violation will have to be rather severe in order for the person not to quickly fall back under the deity's spell.
White lies
Even if the lesser god is caught in a white lie, it will have no effect on the affected person's trust. They will always excuse it as something being done for the person's best interest and nothing will be seen to be wrong with it.
Minor lies
A small lie that has some negative consequence for the person who hears and acts on it, or a lie about the character of another person that would not be considered malicious will be quickly excused by the person who hears it even if they are convinced of the falsehood, but it can compound with greater violations of trust or more flagrant and malicious lies to ultimately cause the person to break from the deity's spell.
Minor trust violations
Failing to get a task you are asked to do and perfectly capable of doing completed when you have promised you would do so, or doing the task blatantly wrong in some way, will be regarded the same as a minor lie.
An example of doing a task wrong would be if you were asked to babysit and fed the kids a lot of candy or in some other way permitted them to perform some kind of non-harmful activity that was against the parent's wishes.
If the deity fails in this way, the person who was failed by the deity will excuse this by assuming the deity had more important tasks to attend to, or that they knew something the violated person didn't. Violations of this sort will not be counted against the deity unless someone is in the active process of talking the person out of their trust and using these violations as evidence. In this case though, the behavior will still be excused and can only be used as substantiating evidence with more heavier hitting evidence, such as more severe violations of trust, to be added to the mix.
Flagrant or malicious lies
A lie that is obvious and clearly not meant as a joke, such as attempts to avoid suspicion or negative attention through lying, or lies that are meant to make someone doubt the character of someone else or designed to prompt actions that are clearly not in the best interest of the one hearing it will, if the lesser god is caught in this lie, cause the listener to begin to doubt the lesser god and begin to reflect back on other violations of trust. It will sow seeds of doubt, but the situation can be rectified by the deity by being on their best behavior moving forward.
Little will come of this if the affected individual is not given more to make them doubt the lesser god within 72 hours. If they do manage to escape from the spell though, the deity will need to pay special attention to that person to win back their trust and explain themselves.
Large trust violations
Being caught stealing, destroying items of minor value to the owner, or performing a task you were asked to do in a way that is horribly wrong, will give the individual who's trust is violated in this way little recourse but to blame the lesser god for falling short of their expectations. On a first offence, they will be open to a good explanation from the lesser god, but they will expect the lesser god to defend themselves. If they are adequately convinced the lesser god is still trustworthy, they will drop the subject.
In the case of repeat offences of this nature, it will receive a reaction similar to the most moderate reaction to a severe trust violation.
An example of doing a task horribly wrong would be if you were asked to babysit and you had no idea where one or more of the children were when the parents got home, and you do not seem to care about the fact that you don't know. Another example would be if the child came to preventable harm while in your care. (this example would be upgraded to the next level of severity if the two were combined.)
Severe trust violations
In addition to the standard list of severe trust violations that are the same for demigods, those being lies that could potentially cause a threat to life or safety, maliciously causing physical harm, stealing or destroying items of great monetary or emotional value, or being found to have performed what would be regarded as a severe criminal act in a society, all deities of lesser god status and higher will also be regarded to have severely violated a person's trust any time their trust aura is broken for any reason what so ever. It is a sort of double-edged sword of the strength of the trust aura, it holds so much under the surface that even a compounding of more minor infractions can be considered quite severe when they all come out at once.
Those who have broken free of the deity's control will be angry at them and distrustful for up to 3 months, during witch time they will be completely immune to the deity's control. They will view any and all actions the deity performs that can be interpreted in a negative light in the most unflattering way possible. The lesser god, if they wish to win that person back under their control, must use some form of powerful incentive to entice them or pull out all the stops to convince them either that they had misinterpreted something or that they, the lesser god, has changed and atoned for their misdeeds.
In the case of the standard list of violations that are considered severe, the lesser god's aura of trust is strong enough that they might be able to convince a person these actions are acceptable, but only while the individual is still under their influence. Even then, they must be gradually acclimated to it via a long period of grooming and brainwashing. If at any time an individual finds out the lesser god has committed an act that can be considered a severe trust violation that they were not prepared to expect before hand with a readied explanation, it will instantly break the lesser god's hold on them.
