Grelis (GRELL-is)

The grelis (singular grelis) are a small race of blue skinned humanoids. Their native planet of Grel (GRELL) has much higher gravity than Earth's at 4.665G, a nitrogen-oxygen atmosphere at 1.112 atm, and an average temperature comparable to that of Earth. Due to these factors they are extremely strong physically for their size.

Abilities

• Superior Strength: Grelis are approximately twice as strong as a human, and can therefore lift heavy objects and jump great distances.
• Prehensile Tail: The grelis have a long prehensile tail that they can use to manipulate objects. It is not as strong or accurate as hands, but does make for a capable third manipulator.

Biology

Appearance

Grelis are somewhat human in appearance. They have two arms and two legs just like humans. But they only possess three clawed fingers and an opposable thumb on their hands and do not posses toes. They walk with a upright, bipedal, plantigrade gait like humans. They have two eyes and a mouth like humans, but possess no nose or ears; instead their skin is sensitive to vibrations and chemicals, thus acting as a replacement for both missing sense organs. Their eyes are very human-like. They females possess small breasts giving them a body similar to a ten to twelve year old human girl. Grelis also have a long thick prehensile tail.

Genders & Reproduction

Grelis have a unique form of reproduction that requires three genders. The male mates with the somewhat hermaphroditic looking off-gender member of the species (known as a curin in grelis). The male's sperm is combined with the curin's proto-sperm to create meta-sperm consisting of a strand of DNA and a strand of PNA. The curin then mates with the female, producing a zygote that can grow and be born. Enzymes inside the mother prohibits the formation of young without PNA, but oddly, if this were not so the resulting child of a purely male-female grelis mating would be theoretically human due to the matching number of chromosomes. Grelis pregnancies last about as long humans.

Aging

Grelis suffer from aging like most organic species, however like most of the species in the Galactic Federation, they can suppress and correct the effects of aging indefinitely, making them virtually immortal. Grelis reach adulthood after about eighteen Earth years. Without anti-aging medication they begin showing signs of old age at about fifty years old, and can live as long as one hundred years.

Diet

Grelis are omnivores. Grelis biology is highly comparable to the organisms on earth. They have no difficulty consuming terrestrial food, and can easily derive all necessary dietary requirements from it.

Senses

• Visual: Grelis eyes very much like those of humans. They have almost identical visual capacity compared to humans. They do not have an advantage or disadvantage compared to humans.
• Auditory: Grelis "hear" with their skin. Their hearing has a similar range and capacity as do humans. They do not have an advantage or disadvantage compared to humans.
• Chemical: Grelis "smell" and "taste" with their skin as well. Their senses of taste and smell are comparable to humans. They do not have an advantage or disadvantage compared to humans.
• Tactile: The skin of a varselaveshi is comparable to a human's for level of sensitivity to pressure and temperature. They do not have an advantage or disadvantage compared to humans.

Other Considerations

Grelis have a triple helix genetic structure consisting of two strands of DNA and a strand of PNA. They have a total of 63 chromosomes, 21 in each strand. Humans have 42 chromosomes, 21 in each strand. This makes the grelis unique in that they can theoretically interbreed with humanity without technical aid.

Government & Culture

Government

Grelis have a representative monarchy. The monarch can be male, female, or curis, and holds supreme executive power (like that of a president or prime minister) for life, and passes their reign to a chosen member of their bloodline on their death. Their is also a royal council that is elected by the people that makes the laws. Members of the council have to be verified by the monarch before they are permitted to serve. The monarch directly appoints three judges to grand tribunal which functions much like the US Supreme Court. Members of the council may judge a monarch unfit, and if upheld by the grand tribunal, the monarch can be deposed for their successor.

Economy

The grelis have a capitalist economy which is somewhat similar to that of many capitalist nations of the Earth. They even once had a system of stock trading, but it was abolished due to its detrimental effects on economy as a whole.

Culture

The grelis are a very curious and fun-loving race. They aren't terribly ambitious or competitive as a species, but definitely enjoy their leisure activities. Grelis do not believe is forbidding any action, so long as the individual isn't causing harm to others. They have almost no cultural taboos. Grelis have never had a firm concept of a god, or any form of organized religion. Such institution seem laughably silly to the race.

Invasion Goals and Processes

Interbreeding Process

The plan for interbreeding with humans is simple for the grelis. Either a grelis or human male mates with a curis, who then mates with a human female. Hybrid made. The curis is important, otherwise they would just be making more humans.

Political Goals

The grelis have no political goals.

Cultural Goals

The grelis wish to get humans to be less uptight, and take on a more open, libertarian approach to life.

Technical Goals

The grelis have no technical goals.

Invasion Stages

Stage One

Have fun, make hybrids.

Stage Two

Stage two occurs once the population of hybrids exceeds 50% of the human population. At this point the grelis will petition the Galactic Council to declare Earth a territory of Grel. Once that is done, a delegation from the homeworld will arrive to negotiate the integration of Earth into their government. Victory has then been achieved.
