“I want...” you start up, but then suddenly you feel as though something snaps inside you before you answer. “You know what? Fuck it.” You say, “I guess I will go off the deep end and just go straight to child sex slavery on this one.”
“Seriously!?” He asks. “Boy! I didn’t know you had it in ya!”
“Ahh… I don’t want it to be that common a practice though. It’s not like I’m gonna be… too exploitative of her. I just… well...”
“Got it, sex slaves with humane treatment, and it’s a rather uncommon practice. Ok, well, it will require a little bit of creativity but I think I can set that up for you.” With those words and an almost disturbingly level face as though you had just asked him to adjust the weather his fingers begin flying over the control panel. “Ok, so, we will make it so that it is the children who have to choose to become slaves, there has to be no involvement of their parents. That ought to drop down the rate of it happening. Also, children are strongly discouraged from it, but people don’t take issue with the slave owner. In fact… there, that’s good. It will actually be seen as something of an accomplishment to get someone to agree to become your sex slave, kind of like five times over how guys are looked at with approval for getting laid. Same principal at work though… Ok then, that should do it! Now for the exact functions within the law, I will just let the system handle it by applying the new cultural norms to the legal system. Aaaaannnnd… done! Ok! Well, now you will have the full blessings of society to take that kid as your sex slave.”
“Just like that?” You respond, your head spinning just a bit that this is all it takes to change a law as well as social attitudes about such an extreme subject.
“Yep, just like that.” He says, still showing just about zero effect to you having asked for something like this. “Well then, was there anything else?”
“Errr…. No, I don’t think so...”
“All right then, I guess that’s taken care of then. Actually, it didn’t occur to me this might be something you would want access to. Guess that was a bit of a stupid oversight in hind-sight though. How about we fix it so you have access to just this function of the area control?”
“You can do that?” You ask.
“Oh yeah,” he says, “you would just have to be my subordinate in this area. Subordinates can control the location as well, but only the aspects of it that the owner of the area allows them to control. Manipulating laws and cultural norms is not the aspect that had the world destructive screw-ups potential, so it shouldn’t be a problem. At least, not unless you were thinking of moving somewhere else and claiming a different area, because being a subordinate locks you out of that. It counts against your number of claimable areas allowed.”
“Heh, yeah.. ok.” you grumble a bit as though to say “as if I would try that.” After all, Loki DID say he would give you this area after you “practiced” with the hack a bit. “I guess we’ll go with that.”
“Right, le’mme just send you the invite.” Just like with when he was sending you modules to download, a screen appears in front of you.

You hit accept, and are quickly greeted by another window stating you are now a subordinate under Loki for control of the current area.
"Ok!" He says, "With that, you can edit the laws, society, and cultural norms of this area. You could even change the entire system of government to make it a monarchy or a theocracy if you wanted."
"Wait, how would that look to the outside world around us?" You ask.
"Oh! It is all memory controlled of course." Loki states in a surprisingly even-keeled tone. "If any lifies walk into the controlled area, they automatically think that the way it works here is the way it works everywhere, and that it has always been that way. And then once someone leaves the controlled area, they immediately forget everything about how things were inside and return to operating by the outside world's rules."
You are stunned for about half a second. It seems Loki really is quite the gracious teacher. You have not sensed the slightest air of exasperation as he answers your questions, no matter how obvious the answer would probably be to him, such as that last one that he could have easily presumed you ought to have been able to figure out on your own.
"So then, any more questions?" He asks.
"Uhh... no, I think that was it." You tell him.
"Well then, if you have any other questions, just go ahead and pop back in. I've got some coding to do now, but after I’m finished I’ll check back in on how you are doing with the hack. Maybe have a few other modules for you."
“Ahh… Ok...” you say cautiously, taking the hint that this is his signal for the two of you to part. Going by what you know of him, he would have just walked right through a wall and left you behind on only those words if he was the one visiting you, and his behavior now seems to suggest he expects you to do the same. The social awkwardness of the situation leaves you feeling a little bit uncomfortable just leaving, but you figure you can take the hint well enough. “Right then! Off to enjoy my time with my new house-mate I guess.”
“Yep! Have fun with that!” Loki comments with a giant smile. “Maybe you will have made a few other adjustments to the local society by the time I come back too. That particular function is probably one of the better ones for you to learn with.”
“Ehh… I’ll keep that in mind…” you comment as you begin moving toward the door. You look off behind you and Loki is already immersed back in his manipulations of his holographic terminal having already gone off into his own world. You suppose that is it for now then, and you simply slip out the door and back into the lavish corridor that brought you here.
Well then, what now?
- Get back to reality and get your visit with Mary over with
- Start working on getting Loki’s approval by messing with your new local area module permissions
