Offline/Tell her why you really need her
"Okay, listen, I need your help." You waste no time spilling the beans in a hushed tone. "My parents won't let me camp by myself because they're lame, but I've been to this campsite before and I know of this wicked cabin that'd be totally unsupervised. I just need someone to come with me and I figured you might be up for it since you're the only one here I can trust." You take a deep breath, your nerves oddly calmed by getting that off your chest, even if it wasn't the most elegant approach to this.
"Oh. Okay. But... why do you want me to go with you?" she asks, still confused.
You shrug. "I dunno. I think we have a lot in common."
"Like what?" she asks plainly.
"Like... I dunno, I just need someone. We wouldn't even have to spend any time together during the day. We'd just both use the cabin to sleep in is all. That's it really. You get to stay in a cool cabin and so do I."
She scrunches up her face a little, like she still doesn't believe you. "So this is... a special cabin?"
You shrug again. "Not really. It's actually kinda shit. But it's just away from everyone else. You can sleep away from the drunk people or make noise without waking anyone. It's just, y'know... private."
She gives you one more critical look, adjusting her glasses.
"...okay."
"Yeah?" you ask, a little surprised she agreed.
"Sure. My mom doesn't even knock at home. Some privacy would be nice for a change."
"Yeah! Totally!" You bounce a little, excited that you'll get your cabin after all. "So, will she...?" you trail off, nodding behind you.
"Hey mom," Nicole says over her shoulder. "I'm going to bunk with Justice this trip, k? He knows the camp so he can show me around and make sure I'm okay."
"Well isn't that nice! Thank you Justice, that's very sweet of you!"
"Yeah!" you nod, discovering how nice you are all of a sudden. "Call me Jay," you say to your aunt then lock eyes with your cousin.
"Alright, Jay it is!" your aunt says with a chuckle.
You spend a couple minutes together chatting about the camp to kill some time, Nicole slowly warming up to you in the process.
"Okay, cool! I'll tell my folks! Grab your stuff quick when we get there and follow me. I dunno if someone else will want to steal this cabin, but as long as we get there first we're good."
You go back to your respective seats and you inform your parents about Nicole bunking with you. They both approve of your choice of roommate and a sense of satisfaction washes over you as you realize that this week might still turn out okay.
