Flatter her and convince her of your sincerity to get to know her

"Hey! So, you're... pretty!" A weird thing to admit to your cousin, but it's the closest thing to flattery you can latch onto once she's sitting so close beside you

Nicole eyes you weirdly. "Yeah? Okay."

"Sorry, you just used to be so... I mean, it's been a while."

Wow. A smooth talker you are not. Thankfully she's at least polite.

"Uh, yeah. A few years or something. Grandpa's birthday I think."

You totally forgot about that. "Yeah! Exactly. We hung out the whole day!" You have no idea. You can't remember at all and it kinda kills your train of thought. There's an uncomfortable pause, nervousness setting in as Nicky silently judges you like every girl that's ever shot you down. "I like your glasses," you quickly drop, trying and failing to compliment her again.

Nicole's eyes narrow. "So... what did you want?"

"I- I dunno. I just wanted to get to know you better. I remember having so much fun with you before. And since we're both going to be stuck at this camp I think it'd be cool to bunk together."

Nicole looks away. She's not on board. You have to try a lot harder than that.

"I just wanted someone to talk to and I think you're really cool." As if you would have the slightest idea. "You shouldn't have to rely on books to make it through this thing. Besides, I can think of lots of things we can do together if you bunk with me." That came out real well. "Not that... I mean, it's no fun spending the week by yourself."

She turns to you again. "I'm here with my mom, so..."

She doesn't bother finishing that sentence. You just got shut down. What a jumbled mess. You've never been smooth with this sorta thing but that fell apart real fast. You worry that it sounded like you were trying to come on to her, but even if you were you did a shit job. You still have a lot to learn about coming on to girls, as well as girls in general.

You both awkwardly try to end the conversation on a more neutral note then go back to your respective seats. You sit down in a huff, dejected by the thought that even your nerdy cousin has shot you down.

"What's wrong, honey?" asks mom.

You loudly sigh, expressing your irritation and resignation. "I'll take Emma with me."

"Thank you. You're a good brother Justice. She's sitting in the back with Asha, but we'll tell her when we get there."

This is going to be such a lousy trip.
