The thought about your thingy getting hard popped into your mind as you started to put your homework into your backpack. You look down and see the small bulge against your shorts before looking up at your mom and asking, "Mom? Why does my thingy get hard and stand up sometimes?"

Mom nearly spits out her coffee and chokes a little with a couple of light coughs. She looks at you with wide eyes and makes sure that Emily is out of ear shot. "Uhm, well..." She starts. "I did not think that would start happening so early, but you are getting older and sometimes your uh... willy will stand up. It's totally normal for it to happen so don't be scared or anything." Mother continues, "And well, it might get hard when you look at someone you like, but you should keep it to yourself and only take it out in your room or in the bathroom."

"Why?" You ask.

"Well because it's a private thing, it might be a little rude and embarrassing to pull attention towards it." She's as honest as she can be while keeping the details pretty tame. You're fairly satisfied with her answer.
