Chapter 4

Sam

“Hey, so… did you hear anything last night?” Sam said.

“No, not a thing. Except for you pledging your undying loyalty to mom and betraying me, of course.” Kim snidely replied.

Sam’s cheeks flushed beet red. “N-no I didn’t! She- she just… I told her that I wasn’t going to do it anymore!”

“Oh, so you did do betray me at one point. Thanks for the confession idiot.” And with that, Kim left the bedroom.

It was Tuesday, after school. Sam’s classmates had all but forgotten about his tardiness yesterday. Except for Audrey. She always took any chance to make fun of him. He had come home with lingering shame. Sam still hadn’t gotten over missing school yesterday, plus the events of last night made everything so much worse. Nothing had gone right yesterday. Today nothing improved much. Kim was so mad at him, he felt she could rip him apart just with eyes.

“Damn, I’m so unlucky,” Sam thought. Nothing he could do except try and make it all better form now on. Sam went downstairs to see if he could convince his sister to forgive him somehow. He wasn’t all that sure that he actually ‘betrayed’ her, but it only matters what she feels. And right now, she feels betrayed.

He found her in the kitchen ruffling through the fridge looking for something. “What would make her happy?” He said the first thing that came to mind.

“Um… do you want to play dolls?”

She closed the fridge door and turned around, “What?”

“God why am I so stupid?” They hadn’t played a single together since she four, Kim hasn’t even touched her dolls since they got a new television. Geez, now what was he supposed to say? Things could only get more awkward form here. “Nothing, nothing.” Stupid, stupid, stupid. He was too embarrassed to say anything else, and he had to leave before she made fun of him.

“Sure, got nothing else better to do.”

Sam stood with a blank expression on his face. “…wat?”

“But where are they? I think they might have been donated or thrown away. Actually, they might be in the basement.” Kim pressed on, unknowing of her brother’s stupid expression.

Was he hearing this right? Kim, his sister, just agreed to play a game with him that they haven’t played in over three years? No way. No way Jose.

“Can you go check?” Kim asked. She waited for a response. “Sam?”

He just couldn’t understand why she would want this. Now of all times. “Why?”

“What do you mean ‘why?’ Is your brain in there?” she said.

“I don’t get it. For so long you just don’t talk to me, you avoid me, you hate me, and now you just want to hang out? Play a stupid game? Why did you leave me by myself for so long?”

Now it was Kim’s turn to have a blank face. She stood staring at Sam. Then her face morphed into anger. “Fine asshole, have it your way.” She pushed him aside and stomped up the stairs. He heard the bathroom door slam shut.

Sam felt terrible that things had turned out this way, but he also felt furious that his sister betrayed him. “Yeah, she betrayed him, not the other way around.” She just decided that she could be selfish all she wanted and left for three damn years. Why the hell does she just now decide to peek out? Maybe she just changed like everyone does, but she let herself go down the bad path. She is just so dull now. An hallow version of herself. How dare she do that to him? How fucking dare she?

Sam didn’t even care about her anymore. He was went upstairs and locked himself inside his bedroom by. He was never going to come out. Who cares if he gets in trouble? No one.

No one really cares about him. That realization wasn’t a happy one.

Kim

She wasn’t coming out until her his brother had to pee, and she would make him beg and plead to be let in. Kim would make him ask her to forgive him and she still wouldn’t let him in. He would piss his pants and cry, all embarrassed and covered in his own pee. That pervert would probably like that, but she would make sure he didn’t. Somehow.

Thirty minutes passed. Nothing. An hour passed. Nothing. Two hours passed. Kim was getting hungry, it was around dinner time, and at school only had a cheese pizza and fries. Three hours had passed in total. Someone tried to open the bathroom door. It was Millie. She tried to convince Kim to come out. Not happening. Kim then heard her try to open Sam’s door. Apparently it was locked and he would not open. Kim heard her mother exclaim to herself “What is wrong with these kids?!” After five hours in the bathroom Kim could take it no longer. Desperate for sleep she tried the bedroom door. No luck. She wasn’t about to beg her brother to let her in, so she headed downstairs to the couch.

The next morning her mother shook her awake. “You’re going to be late,” she said. Kim went upstairs to see if the door was open. It was. Her brother was nowhere to be seen, so she got ready for school. Kim ate some much needed breakfast, and left to catch the bus. Turns out she ended up missing the bus and going late to school. Her mother had to give her a ride to school, but she wasn’t happy about doing it a second time this week.

During lunch Diana and her bitches came to Kim’s table to make fun of her. For whatever reason. Carmen and her fought them off, but those idiots would be back later. And surely enough after school they caught up to her as she was heading to her bus. Picked on her for being late, smelling funny, being so weird, yada yada yada. Didn’t they have anything better to do?

Back home things still sucked. Mom was in a bad mood, and Sam was once again locked in his room. “Get over it you pussy,” she thought. He didn’t get over it. It was to the point were Kim had to either convince him to open up, or start planning to make the living room her new bedroom.

“Sam? Sam let me in, I need to take a shower.”

“This isn’t a bathroom,” he responded.

“Sam just open the freaking door!” Kim was tired of his shit. “Open it or I’ll punch you in the face.”

“Go away.”

This wasn’t going anywhere. “I’m sorry, ok? We’ll play whatever you want. I’ll even give you ten dollars.”

“…”

“Sam?”

The lock clicked and the door creaked an inch open. Kim quickly pushed hard against the door. Sam pushed back. “Let me in!” she demanded. They struggled, and Kim managed to overpower Sam and breached the room. “Now you’re not getting those ten dollars.”

He said nothing and climbed onto his bed. Kim actually didn’t have anything to do. Besides homework of course, but she never did it anyways. Reading wasn’t all that appealing right now, and going back downstairs and giving Sam the opportunity to lock her out again? Hell no. There was still an option though.

“Aren’t we gonna play something? I told you we could,” she said.

Sam peeked out from on top of his bed. “Really?!” he squeaked out like an excited five year old.

“Got nothing better to do.”

They searched for the dolls in the living room, searched in the basement, in the garage, everywhere. They had to resort to asking Millie, only to find out that Kim’s old dolls were donated a long time ago.

“Do you wanna play ball instead?” Sam asked.

“Nah, let’s play City.”

“How? All of our toys are gone now.”

“Not all of them, just most of them. And we can use your shoe boxes as houses!” She started thinking about what her city would look like. “We could make like bags and people out of paper! Or find ask mom if we can buy more toys!” What else was lacking? Cars, defiantly cars. They were also going to need crayons and markers to paint and label things. Building a Mc Donald’s would be nice. She could even be the manager. Kim was kinda getting into it now.

“Can we play something else?” Sam said like he had a better idea.

“What else could we play, there’s nothing else!”

“Can we just play catch ball again? We still have the ball.”

She was giving him an opportunity to play together again and he goes and does this. “Fine.” Maybe City would have to wait another day. Besides, it would take too long, and they didn’t have many toys, and it was a dumb idea to begin with.

And so Sam and Kim played an average game of catch indoors. Indoors. Turns out it wasn’t a good idea. They ended up breaking a framed picture. After they get scolded they had a quick laugh about it in their bedroom.

Sam looked like he had something to say.

“Talk,” Kim said.

“What?”

“You wanna tell me something? Then talk.”

“Um, so, do you really want new toys? So we could like, play again another time?”

Jeez, it’s not like she was gonna do it everyday form now on. It was nothing special, she just got bored and wanted to have some fun. “Dude, just forget about it. I want toys just because there’s nothing else to do. I’m not a little kid anymore, but there is literally nothing else to do.”

“Okay, okay, just asking.”

A moment of awkward silence. “I’m hungry. Do you think mom made something already?”

Sam was about to respond when their mother called. “Dinner’s ready! Come downstairs!”

They gladly did so.

_____

“Hey Alway! Aren’t you gonna play?” prisoner 3089-031 called out.

“No,” said prisoner 3168-031.

“Fuck you then.” The first man said, and continued his game of poker.

Inmate 3168 had bruises and cuts from the fight that broke out two days ago. The attackers got word of what he had done, and decided to jump him in the night. Fucked him up, but he managed to knocked one out cold before the guards came in. It had only a matter of time before something like this happened. He’s actually surprised it took so long. “3 down, only 7 years more. Just 7 more…”

END OF CHAPTER 4

Chapter 5

Prisoner 3168? I wonder…

But wait, something more important is happening! Are… are Sam and Kim actually kinda sorta getting along? What alternate dimension have we entered? Hopefully it is one full of kiddie incest. I am always open to constructive criticism and ideas. Especially with how I handled the two perspectives. Thank you so much for reading, and see ya!
