Dick is twelve and rather resents having to babysit his six-year-old sister. They live with their mother and father in a nice house in a pretty little country town. Daddy goes to work on the train every day in his suit and carries an umbrella even when the sun is shining. Mummy doesn’t work, but she has many lady friends who visit each other’s homes. On the way home from school the next day, Dick tells Jane that they are going to Blockbuster to rent a video. “We don’t have any money,” Jane says, but Dick tells her that if she’s nice to Mr Smith in the shop, he will let them choose one for free.
