David was born ten minutes before Jane and their arrival was a little unexpected as they hadn't shown up on the antenatal scans. Their parents were not well off but made the best of the situation. The twins had shared a womb for nine months, so sharing a cot was no problem. Friends and relatives chipped in with clothes etc and life rolled on.

The twins did everything together. They got one breast each at feeding time, swapping at half-time because David was greedier than his sister. Clothes were interchangeable and it was hard to tell them apart when they went out. Naturally, they shared a bath.

Their parents intended to give them their own beds when they got older, but somehow, seeing them cuddled happily together made it seem an unnecessary expense. In the bath, Jane was curious about the extra part that her brother had between his legs, and by the time they were three, she had learned how to make it stand up.

Even though Mum saw her son with a stiffie, she paid it no attention. In fact, she thought it was cute. David enjoyed the feeling he got when his sister played with it and actively encouraged her. Of course, that made them curious about her anatomy and she discovered that she liked being tickled "down there".

At first, their little games were confined to the bath, but it wasn't long before they extended them to their bed. By this time, Mum and Dad had bought a new bed for themselves, and the twins were sharing their old double bed. Mum or Dad would read them a story, and leave them alone. Often, they fell asleep quickly, but sometimes David would feel his sister's little hand sneaking down the front of his pyjamas to find what he now called his pipi.

He, in turn, would slip a hand under the elastic waistband of Jane's pyjamas and find the little bump at the top of her winkle that gave her special tingly feelings. This often caused a lot of giggling and someone would come in and tell them off. "Get to sleep you two, or one of you will have to sleep on the floor." That usually did the trick.
