The pool was closed; not unreasonable I suppose since drunk people and swimming pools are not a good combination. The dining room had been turned into a kind of cabaret, with a stage at one end with a band playing dance music and tables all around where people were sitting, drinking and talking. I made my way to the bar and found a stool and a cold beer and sat watching what was going on.

A lot of the groups on the tables were obviously families and although the younger children were absent, presumably in bed, there were still quite a few young teens around. There was a postage stamp dance floor near the stage where some couples were trying to dance and I noticed that several of them looked like fathers with daughters.

“Hi Frances; you want another beer?” I looked round and saw that Bob slipped onto the stool next to mine. With my beer topped up, Bob and I sat chatting for a while. After what I’d done with the children, I was more than a little nervous; even though he was obviously a paedo like me, he could still object.

While we were sitting there, a couple of girls came over; they obviously knew Bob and asked him about Molly and Harry. They were twin sisters; Janet and Florence. When I first saw them I thought that they must be around thirteen or fourteen, but close-up I could see that under the makeup and party dresses, they were more like ten or eleven. They wandered off and Bob told me that he’d met them the previous year. “Their mother died a couple of years ago and they live with their dad,” he said. “

What do you do?
