After a sleepless night in which I could hardly credit what was happening, I decided that girls were off the agenda for the day. I had a lie-in and then made my way down to the pool for coffee and croissants. Even the parade of half-naked girls wasn't going to put me off and when a young woman sat nearby, with a naked baby clamped onto a nipple, I decided to go for a walk.

One side of the road was hotels; all fairly new, and the other was beach, with a cluster of people who had ventured out from the hotel pool. Eventually, hotels gave way to houses and the occasional cafe, and then I was at the top of the main street into the town.
