From All The Fallen Stories

You've been looking forward to spending time with Jason ever since Mum told you about it. She's been acting pretty weird ever since you told her about Auntie Susan. She wasn't really an auntie, you just call her that and it was after you told Mum about the games you played with her, that she suddenly packed up and moved to this new place. It's all right here, and even the new school's okay, but being cooped up in this flat with Mum all the time is a bit of a drag and I have to go to the creche after school with all the babies.

Mum is dressed up really smart for her meeting and when Jason arrives, you suddenly find yourself a bit shy. She shows him into the kitchen and tells him about having pizza for tea and then, after telling you to behave yourself, "and no telling stories," which you know means not telling him about Auntie Susan, she's gone.

Jason flops down in the armchair. "I'm pretty new to this," he says. "Is there anything you want to do?"

"We could watch TV," you say, although you know it's pretty boring on Saturday afternoons. He asks you about school and tells you how he used to go to the same school, and he asks you about living in the flat, and you just shrug and say "it's okay." After a while, you run out of things to talk about and he asks if you got any games. You can't really think of anything you want to play with him and you end up turning the TV on anyway.

After a little while, he asks; "have you got a girlfriend?"

You shake your head. "I'm only six," you say.

Jason laughs. "I had a girlfriend when I was six. She was really beautiful with curly black hair and skin the colour of milk chocolate. That was in my old school before we moved here though." He looked a bit sad, thinking about her.

"Was she the same age," you ask.

Jason shakes his head. "Nah, she was quite a bit older than me, but she lived next door and we used to play together quite a lot."

"Did you ever kiss her," you ask.

"She was the first girl I ever kissed," he says. "What about you, did you ever kiss a girl?"

You shake your head. You know Mum said should never tell anyone, but Jason seems nice and he's only a kid himself really. "Only Auntie Susan," you say.

He laughs. "Relatives don't count."

You feel yourself going red. "Auntie Susan wasn't a real auntie, I just called her that. She used to collect me from school and I'd stay with her until Mum got home."

"Even so, grownups kiss kids all the time," Jason says with a smile.

"It wasn't just kissing," you say, knowing that you shouldn't, but somehow wanting to. "We did a lot more than just kiss."
