I didn't say anything, but I've been trying to give the orphans names that are biblically inspired.
- Adam (adamos is Hebrew for "mankind")
- Micaela (feminine version of Michael "mirror image of the Lord") kind of ironic, since HG wants her to be a rebellious skater.
- Bethany (Bethlehem)
- Kirsten (Scandinavian version of "Christina", which means "follower of Christ"
- Jane (Hebrew, Yehochanan, meaning "YHWH is merciful)
- Hannah (Hebrew, Channah, meaning "grace/favor")
- Candace (Meroitic/Sudanese, Kandake, meaning "pure/innocent")
- Camilla (Hebrew, Karmel, meaning "orchard/garden")
- Elisha (Hebrew, meaning "YHWH is my salvation". Can also be the feminine form of Elijah, meaning "YHWH is my God")
- Jeannine (see entry for Jane) is the name of a well respected theologian.
- Becky/Rebecca (Hebrew, Rivkah, meaning "to bind together"
- Jezebel's name was most likely given out of spite, because her mother slept around like a whore.
- Tabitha (Aramaic, meaning "gracious/Gazelle")
- Phoebe (Greek, phoibos, meaning "pure, bright, radiant")
You may not have realized it, but "Elaine" comes from French / Greek "Helen" and is derived from the Hebrew name Eliana, meaning "YHWH has answered." So it still fits into the biblical naming scheme. --MrPib (talk) 18:07, 25 July 2024 (UTC)
