59.99 for 3 weeks? What country's currency are we using here? Or rather, what time period is this set in? I don't know of anywhere in the entire world today where the rate would be that low. Generally, a cheep motel will cost about 30-50 Dollars a night and were talking no-tell roach motels, that most cracked out drug addicts would avoid. A mid class motel about $100 to $150 a night and the high class $300 Plus a night. If you want a suit or special features, them probably double that and only on the mid to high class Motels. I think you're talking about Hotels Telgar. There IS an actual difference between hotels and motels. Mostly, it is in business model. Hotels expect you to stay a while and are geired toward catering to guests who come for vacations and such. You usually only find hotels near prime vacation locations or in big cities where there might be something like a convention center or maybe they mi[ght have to put up a business specialist who is here to do a several day project at the company. Sometimes hotels will give you discounts of around 20% if you stay for at least a week at a time. Hotels are also more likely to be buildings that you walk into with your room being off an interior hallway.
Motels are kinda like hotels that have a specific business model of catering to guests that will only stay 1 or 2 nights, and they mostly started appearing after the US built its freeways back in the early 1900s. They appear most often along the sides of major roads and tend to advertise their location on street signs along the highway along with things like gas stations and restaurants. Although, you can usually find at least one motel in all but the smallest of small towns that are out of the way and don't expect anyone to be passing by in large enough numbers to justify a motel.
The pricing for hotels breaks down just about exactly as you just said, but motels are dealing with a lot more price competition. They are typically of a quality hovering just above a 2 star hotel (1 star is a roach hotel, as you mentioned before. 2 star does not have good quality beds or amenities, but at least it's clean. Motels tend to be situated right between 2 and 3 star hotels in terms of their quality, where 3 star is the 50-100$ range for hotels that are the first level that's actually somewhat decent.) At any rate, motels tend to be part of chains with standards and the quality for motels varries from just barely above 2 star hotel to just barely below 3 star hotels. Price competition prevents the pricing for motels from varrying too much, they generally go for 50-80$ per night, with the lower end of that range being the ones that are barely better than 2 star hotels, and the higher end being the ones that are not quite at the standard of 3 star hotels.
If you encounter a motel that is not part of a chain (like motel 6 being the most famous and usually on the cheaper end) then you might be able to go cheaper than 50$ a night, but it will also not have the quality control of a chain and could be pretty shitty. (Note, most motels will have a dining area where they offer breakfast each morning. Some will have you pay for breakfast, but if it is at least 50$ a night then the price of breakfast is included with your stay.)
Anyway, if you were to ask to stay 3 weeks at a motel, the clerk would probably be a bit surprised but they wouldn't stop you. (They might find it less strange though if the town was small and therefore there actually were no hotels in the area. Jemini (talk) 07:19, 13 August 2018 (CEST)
