Vault 69/Decon-doctor
The doctor is rather pretty; and helping her out would let you meet all the girls that you would be seeing for the rest of your life . . . barring those born here. It was a rather appealing prospect.
"I like being helpful," you offer.
"I suppose that settles it then," says Doctor Romero.
"It does nothing of the sort," says your mother, her face turning a familiar red. "Not without my permission!"
"Of course," says Doctor Romero in a casual, almost patronizing tone, "I was simply trying to move things along. We have fifty groups to go through decontamination, which takes fifteen minutes just for the cycle. That means twelve and a half hours to get everyone through to the last group even if they instantly teleported into and out of the chamber without the need for instruction, preparation, or adjustment. But, by all means let's hold everything up because one boy will be naked with a medical professional!"
"Hey!" exclaims your mother, "I just-"
"Come on lady," says one of the other women, "let's just get on with it! My sister is in a later group. We're going to be here all day at this rate."
Your mother's face is beet red. Finally she says, "Fine! Tay, now you behave with Doctor Romero. And try not to pick up her habit of bad manners!"
"Yes, yes, I'm a bad influence," says Doctor Romero. "Now take your vault suit and proceed to the decontamination room, Mrs. Willis . . . and do make sure you put that little gun in the bin for analysis. We don't want any stray microbes getting in because you didn't feel safe in the safest place on the planet." Your mother snatches the suit out of the doctor's hands with her free arm, and goes to the doorway to wait for your sisters.
"Forgetting something?" asks the doctor. Your mother seems at a loss. The doctor grabs an infant vault suit and hermetically sealed diaper and holds it out for your mom. getting even redder in the face, she quickly grabs Gina's gear and heads back to the doorway.
"Help me hand these out, would you . . . Tay, is it? Do you mind if I call you Tay?"
"That's fine, Doctor Romero," you reply cheerfully.
"You can call me Doc, if you prefer . . . or Renee."
"Um thanks, Doc," you say as you feel your cheeks flush.
You help the doctor hand out the vault suits, and watch the women enter the decontamination room. As soon as they are gone, Renee goes to the end of the room, and motions for you to follow. She opens a door, and shows you a small room.
"This is the observation room. There is one-way glass on that wall. When you turn on the light you will see inside. I want you to monitor the ladies and make sure they remove everything as I have instructed. If they have not, come get me. Once they are done, come tell me so I can start the process. Do you think you can handle that? If it's a problem you can instruct the next group instead."
