Samael was an angel. As such he was created by YHWH as a servant. This relationship is often misunderstood by mortals and misrepresented in popular culture. Angels are God's servants, djinn his experiments, and humanity his children. All power over man given to the angels is like the power given to a nanny of one's children. Angels are not superior, or even equal to man in God's eyes. As a fallen angel, Samael revels in humanity's misrepresentation of the relationship between God, man, and angel; and exploits it where he can.

Angels were the first beings created by YHWH, when he said "Let there be light". Samael was the first angel that was created. This made Samael the first being in the universe that was not God. Samael is now the ruler of Sheol (not Hel or Hades, those are two different places and aren't related to Sheol at all). Samael mostly sulks in Sheol. Contrary to popular opinion, Samael has never made mankind do anything. Samael was created as ha satan (the adversary), and has always had the duty to tempt mankind into straying from YHWH's path for them. He was originally more like God's chess partner or player 2. Samael got tired of loosing and blamed YHWH for creating him with no ability to actually win in the contests he was compelled to engage in. While this is accurate, it also meant he had no chance to succeed at his attempt to take over Heaven. Samael still carries out the compulsion to corrupt mankind, but derives no pleasure from it.

Family

The "siblings" of Samael are too numerous to list. Here are prominent "siblings" involved in the story:

• Archangel Michael Sibling: Michael was designed as the exact opposite of Samael. There has always been a very strong animosity between them. This has only grown since the War in Heaven. No two beings despise one another more, though Samael hate YHWH more than he hates Michael.
• Archangel Uriel Sibling: Uriel is Samael's keeper. This is quite irksome to the Lord of Lies, and he holds a great deal of animosity toward Uriel. Uriel just views it as part of his job for the most part, and feels no more or less hatred toward Samael than any other denizen of Sheol.
• Lilith Wife: Lilith is one of Samael's many, many wives, and is the First Wife. She has been totally subjugated by him, and does anything he says.
